"I received a total purchase and installation estimate for $6200 which seemed high. I googled the unit and the price was $1999 on  line. I asked about the $4200. I expected that the cost of installation might be double the cost of the unit but not 3 times the amount. I was told that they can justify the price based on their long standing reputation and that they don't buy units from the internet.  I asked him to breakdown the estimate for me which he did not do. It felt like they were trying to take advantage of the recent generator demand due to storms. <br /> I went on to get another bid which includes a larger unit and at $1000 less cost.  They were also much more transparent about the price and I didn't feel like they were trying to snow me. I am going to work with them instead. <br />"

"Lindus Construction is the best. They installed new roofing and Leafguard gutters to repair damage to our house caused by a hailstorm. The totally new roof was installed in just one day. Replacement Leafguard gutters were installed over several hours on a second day. Materials and workmanship were excellent while Lindus’ workers, supervisors and sales representative were all friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all of our questions. What really makes Lindus a standout company is how they responded to and fixed a roof rainwater leak that developed after their work on our roof – and the leak turned out to have been caused by another company who had been repairing our chimney at about the same time. Lindus’ employees immediately came to our house to inspect the area where water entered and, because it was wintertime, made plans to fix the problem as soon as it was practicable. It took several attempts to fix the problem permanently but throughout the process Lindus’ employees never doubted us and cheerfully responded promptly. After they tracked the source of the leak to chimney flashing that was incorrectly installed, Lindus’ employees didn’t hesitate to fix the leak anyway and at no charge to us. To make sure we were satisfied and knew that the rainwater leak had been fixed, they invested many hours in finding and fixing a problem that was not their responsibility. That is a company I will trust, employ in the future and recommend to anyone."

"I fell for a computer scam where the scammer claimed to be with a computer service firm contracted by Microsoft to repair a dangerous flaw with Windows 10.  I was suspicious, but let them access my computer remotely.  I hung up when they started talking about offering to protect my computer for a price.  The Microsoft website describes these scams.   I was worried that my computer was compromised so I called ATR and had them check my computer for maleware.  I had to wait a day or two to get an appointment, but they contacted me at the scheduled time and performed the work remotely and efficiently.  The ATR rep was courteous and  and willing to spend time answering questions beyond the minimum required to service the computer.  This is the second time I have used ATR and have been pleased both times. <br />"

"My mailbox fell apart and could not be repaired. It needed a new post and everything. This occurred the first week of December and although the ground was not yet frozen, I was concerned that it could soon become frozen.  This is Wisconsin, after all. I called all the highly rated handyman providers, and they all were booked for at least two weeks and some were busy through January or February. I decided to take a chance on Property Image, even though they had only a few reviews. The entire process went really well. They could not set up an available date for three days or so, but they communicated with me so I knew they were coming. I also could not be there during the work, which was not a problem for them. They offered to buy a new mailbox for me, but I wanted to choose one myself. I bought one (they purchased a post), and left it on my front porch in the morning. I came home that evening and it was installed perfectly, just the right distance from the street, level and sturdy in the ground. The landscaping around the post looked like it was barely touched. They billed me about a week later. It all worked out and I love my new mailbox <br />"

"I researched several companies on line after deciding I didn?t want to try this myself, having opened an iPod before and encountered a problem. I was not pleased with the price of batteries or service from other companies. Then a friend recommended ?iResQ.? I checked out the website, and called. They answered the phone. That alone was a great sign. The price was right, the process was easy and fast, so I gave it a try. They received it, replaced the battery sent it out UPS the same day. I got it 2 days later. They answered email promptly and were friendly and knowledgeable on the phone. I?ll go back whenever I need Apple products repaired."

"I went into this job expecting just a basic new roof including replacing underlayment and shingles.  Chris Miller and his crew went above and beyond with not only replacing the shingles, but explaining to me how code has changed over the years, and provided me the correct solution with ice and water protection across the whole roof based on my pitch.  They also added a drip edge for extra protection, repaired vents, and even provided a can of paint to color match all existing roof structures that I had previously painted another color. <br /> My favorite part of the experience was that Chris asked the right questions about the interior and moisture problems with my tongue-n-groove cedar ceiling.  He and his team identified a ventilation problem with the roof, added a ridge vent, and I am happy to report that my moisture problem is gone.  I didn't even bring it up.  He just had the experience to ask the right questions and offer up the right solution. <br /> Wonderful experience! <br />"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Glenwood City, WI

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
