"We have worked with other carpet stores over the years and are fortunate to <br /> have found Carpet Carousel on Angie’s List. We needed to recarpet the upstairs <br /> study which is reached through a “floating” spiral staircase. Both the study <br /> and the treads of the staircase had to use the same material. <br /> <br /> We first had a store we were familiar with take a look. They initially <br /> weren’t sure how they would carpet the treads of the spiral staircase or how <br /> they would move the furniture to carpet the study. I then found Carpet Carousel <br /> on Angie’s List and Shawn came over. He immediately figured how to carpet the <br /> treads and move the furniture. We then visited their show room where Shawn <br /> showed us a number of samples that could work. We took a few with us and made a <br /> decision. In the meantime, we got a quote from the other carpet store and <br /> nearly fell over – it was just about twice the price of Carpet Carousel. <br /> <br /> The installation was excellent. The two men doing the job were punctual <br /> and knew exactly what to do. After the job was done, the area was vacuumed and <br /> the furniture replaced. I highly recommend Carpet Carousel and only wish I had <br /> known about them years ago. <br />"

"Nicky gave us a sale price on our carpet even though the sale hadn't started yet. He also gave us some good advice and we ended up going with a Berber carpet for our busy living room that's been exactly the right choice for us. The crew who showed up to install the carpet was on time, quick, and professional.  <br /> I called Nicky again the day before a big snowstorm. Someone had suggested carpet tubes as a way to keep a toddler busy, and Nicky wasn't at all fazed when I asked if I could have one. He sent over two tubes and even threw in some carpet squares (one of which is 3' x 8' and perfect for my hallway). My son was thrilled to roll his balls and trains down the carpet tubes, and I was thrilled that it kept him entertained when we were snowed in. <br />"

"It went better than I imagined. I recently had my living room repainted and new lighting installed and when that job was finished I realized I couldn't keep the dated wall to wall carpet that had been in the house for years. I called Mike on a Saturday morning, he called back within 10 minutes and come over that afternoon to give me an estimate and began the work the following Tuesday, when he removed the wall to wall carpet.  He started the sanding the next day. When he gave me the estimate he said it would take three days to do the job and another two to allow the finish to dry completely before I could move the furniture back.  He explained the difference between the water based and oil based polyurethane finishes and that I would need to have thresholds installed at some doorways.  After the old wall to wall was removed he showed me scratches the original carpet installers had left in the hardwood.  He said he would try to get them out, but they were very deep and would most likely show up as "shadow lines" when he was done.  They are minor and I can live with them. He did the job right on time and at the price he gave me.  He always returned calls promptly. He was very honest and upfront with me throughout.  The job went exactly as he said it would.  The floors look fantastic, I'm very happy with the job he did! Now I want to have my three bedroom floors done."

"We managed to schedule a cleaning within 3 days of notice before moving into the house.  Chris gave us a rough estimate for the basement cleaning, and actual price was less than what he had quoted after he saw the size of our basement. Chris was polite and punctual and did an impeccable job with our carpet. We had pet stains, rust stain and paint stains but Chris were able to removed those stains. Our carpet now looks and feels new. I would definitely use Crystal Cleaning for any carpet or upholstery cleaning. We are definitely happy to have a professional do the carpet cleaning instead of ourselves. <br />"

"Went great.  Wanted to protect my kitchen and pantry hardwood flooring with vinyl flooring overlay.  Somebody answered my call, scheduled an estimate at a time when I could be there, showed up on time for the estimate, provided a clear explanation of what they would do, showed me samples of the material.  The work, of installing a thin plywood underlayment over the hardwood, then installing the vinyl flooring over it, went smoothly without any trouble.  I've used Harry's Carpet One before, they do good work."

"Less than ideal. The end product looks cheap. The carpet, itself, which was the most expensive option offered, is cheap looking. It was hard to tell in a small swatch, but we are not happy when we see it laid out. The pad is thin (despite asking for the thickest one available). The salesman was very nice and professional but the installation did not go well. There were mistakes that we needed to have fixed by the original crew and then a later crew, and it still doesn't look right. It already has stains that won't come out despite having "stain guard" (only a few weeks after installation). I will likely let the kids tear this carpet up for a year or two and then replace it with a different company."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Gloucester, MA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
