"Derek has been great to work with, each day when they finish working you would never know any work has been going on, so clean. Derek and his crew have been great and if any of my friends that are looking for a contractor I will tell them about Derek."

"From start to finish, it was a great experience and the work that was done on our bathrooms was exceptional - especially the tile work. Communication was great and every detail was looked after. They were very responsive to any issues we had and corrected them quickly without question."

"Had a first floor renovation done by Halyard Services. A new kitchen was placed, new wood flooring, half bath added with new plumbing, new closet, new window, three walls removed and support beams placed, lighting installed, handmade woodwork for kitchen island top, hand crafted wood vanity for the bathroom, paint, plastering, and tiling done. The entire project took 3.5 months. It ran like a well oiled machine! Ryan kept the project organized and running smoothly at all times. His communication was stellar as it was known at all times where things stood with the project. His team was very dedicated to working in a professional, very skilled and reliable manner. All plans were well communicated at all times. Ryan and his team were very approachable and easy to communicate with regarding any questions or changes to the project. After living in the newly renovated space, we are beyond pleased with how things came together! The attention to detail, the quality of the work and the beautiful finishes have made our new space beautifully functional. We would highly recommend Ryan and his team!"

"Bob was fantastic and helped us completely transform our kitchen and first-floor living area. What started as a kitchen project expanded to include new flooring throughout the downstairs, updated plaster ceilings, and additional recessed lighting — all of which were handled seamlessly. His pricing was very fair, and his communication throughout the process was excellent. We were so impressed that we brought him back the following year to build a new front porch and also referred him to a family member for her bathroom renovation. Highly recommend!"

"In 2021, I hired Eric to fix a water leak in my basement. I paid approximately $8000. Three months after the work was done, there was leaking again. He came over and told me that this was a different leak. After I saved up enough money, I was referred to an expert in basement leaks/foundations. He came over and completed the work. When he was doing the work, he proactively asked me who did the work previously. He said he was clearly not done by someone with knowledge of foundations. I have tried to resolve with Eric. At a minimum, I deserve a refund"

"This is the second time we’ve hired Masonworks, and once again, they did an awesome job. They replaced our walkways and stairs, and the quality of the work is excellent—everything looks great. The project went smoothly from start to finish, and the crew was professional and efficient. We’re very happy with the results and would absolutely recommend Masonworks."

"I needed a full kitchen remodel on a condo I purchased last summer and ended up working with Charles on this project. He was a great communicator and always kept me posted on the project’s progress. His craftsmanship is excellent and I was incredibly happy with the final result. He would also share his perspective on decisions/choices that had to be made. With this project, he had a few recommendations that I’m very glad I took, as they were the right decision in hindsight. He knows other tradesmen in the area who complete quality work, and hired a lumber and electrician to help complete this project. I recommend working with Charles on your home remodel project as he does a fantastic job!"

"I recently hired Coen Brothers Construction on a thorough bathroom renovation, and the outcome was outstanding. Their quality was excellent, and I am delighted with the final result. Their sub-contractors were also great and worked at the same high standards as the Coen Brothers. Although we faced some communication issues at the outset, we eventually worked through them, and it significantly improved throughout the project. They paid attention to detail; when my project manager saw me stripping the trim for reuse, they recommended buying new trim and a lumber yard to get it. And it makes a big difference having new trim with clean, sharp lines. Their tile work took longer than expected, but the miter cuts the trim cuts, and the finish is excellent. They were consistently punctual, respectful of my home, and very tidy - tidying up at the end of each day. While the project took longer than anticipated, the reasonable cost and the team's meticulous attention to detail compensated for it. Coen Brothers Construction also expertly handled all necessary permits and inspections, keeping me informed every step of the way. Overall, I am satisfied with their work and would hire them again for my next project."

"Veglia Remodeling was wonderful to work with. Jeff gave me an estimate for the labor/work on my bathroom remodel. He also suggested vendors to work with and suggested meeting them to choose materials (which was the other cost of course). That was very helpful. Jeff was always available via text or phone. Mostly text. He was the point person if I had concerns. Always gracious. Happy to weigh in if I wasn't sure about something. He has a number of people who he works with and they were all very professional and everyone always cleaned up when they left for the day. I felt very fortunate to have Jeff commit to my project since my bathroom is extremely small (two people standing in it is a crowd) and it can be tough to find someone who will work on a small project."

FAQs for kitchen remodel projects in Gloucester, MA

Your galley kitchen needs adequate clearance around any island installation to maintain functionality. Most galley kitchens lack sufficient width for traditional islands, as these layouts prioritize efficiency in smaller spaces.

If your kitchen has an unusual width, consult with a kitchen designer who can evaluate your specific dimensions and recommend appropriate solutions. For narrower spaces, consider alternatives like rolling carts or narrow work tables that provide additional surface area without permanently restricting movement.

Kitchen remodels require six to 10 weeks for completion, though timelines vary based on project scope and material availability. Simple updates like cabinet refinishing and countertop replacement might finish within a few weeks, while comprehensive renovations involving structural changes often extend beyond two months.

Planning stages add approximately four weeks before construction begins. Maintaining clear communication with your contractor and ordering materials early helps prevent unnecessary delays.

Common errors include insufficient clearance between opposing countertops, inadequate lighting that creates shadowy work areas, and poor storage planning that leaves countertops cluttered. Some homeowners select oversized appliances that overwhelm the space or invest in expensive features that don't address fundamental workflow issues.

Careful planning, accurate measurements, and consultation with experienced professionals help avoid these pitfalls and ensure your renovation successfully addresses your kitchen's specific challenges.

Whether expansion makes sense depends on your home's layout, your budget, and your long-term plans. Combining a galley kitchen with neighboring spaces creates more open, flexible layouts that many buyers prefer. However, removing walls involves substantial costs, particularly if they contain plumbing, electrical systems, or structural elements.

Sometimes, optimizing your existing galley layout through better storage solutions and lighting proves more cost-effective than expansion. Consult with a contractor to evaluate specific costs for your situation.

Effective galley kitchen lighting combines multiple sources to eliminate shadows and create visual spaciousness. Overhead fixtures provide general illumination, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates work surfaces directly. Consider recessed ceiling fixtures that don't protrude into limited headspace.

Lighting with dimming capabilities allows adjustment for different activities. Reflective surfaces like glass tile backsplashes or glossy cabinet finishes help bounce light throughout the space, reducing the corridor effect common in galley layouts.
