"Dawn was professional and extremely nice. She arrived at our home on time and returned 2 days later to read the test results. She immediately forwarded these results to us for our records. I highly recommend Radon Tec."

Small jobs welcome

"I contacted Matt last minute for my townhome inspection and he was very quick to reply and accommodate my request. He was very thorough and walked me through the whole inspection (which took a little over 2 hours) and answered every single questions I had and gave me some suggestions as well. I am an agent and have worked with a few inspectors, but none of them were as thorough as Matt. I HIGHLY recommend him & will definitely be using him for all future inspections."

"Tom and Josh arrived on the day and time promised. They were both very polite, professional and worked extremely well together. They explained exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it! They installed the radon Mitigation system and went above and beyond expectations. They cleaned up after themselves. After the job was complete, it looks like it has always been here. What more can you ask? I will definitely recommend DC Mitigation for anyone who needs this service!"

"A++ service. Mike performed an excellent job testing a house we are in the process of purchasing in addition to the Radon testing. We found him to be personable, straight forward, detailed, honest and informative. Each area of concern, Mike provided clear details for the rating given which included pictures with arrows pointing to the exact location. Overall process went smoothly. Would gladly hire again in the future and/or provide as a reference."

"VSI is the real deal. After testing my house & finding levels too high, I started searching for mitigation (Angie, HomeAdvisor, Yelp, etc.). VSI was on every list, their website is extremely informative, and the founder (Mr. Volsted) even created courses @ U of Chicago about radon – some reputation! Then my personal trainer showed me a picture of her radon mitigation system and there was the VSI sticker. So I called, Kevin answered quickly, and after several questions he gave me a quote over the phone & sent emailed it within the hour. A week later Guy and his crew came and did an exceptional job installing the system. Very professional work – respectful of property, wore booties inside, vacuum attachment on concrete drills so minimal dust, and cleaned up everywhere. Great color match on outside piping. Guy even did a smoke test w/ pilot holes to demonstrate the suction beneath the basement floor. Guy gave detailed explanations & answered all my questions. I have a continuous monitoring system and even within a few hours radon levels have already dropped significantly. Very satisfied, highly recommended!"

"Ron was very responsive and was able to get the equipment delivered and installed with short notice. He engaged us in some conversation and clearly loves what he does. His associate returned 48 hours later to retrieve the machines and Ron called us the following day for payment and to provide the results. Our home tested in the 4-6 picocurie range which is above the action level of 4. Ron emailed detail results which showed the measurement by hour and by location, information about radon, and information about remediation (including referrals to local providers). He also included information regarding the legal aspects of radon as it relates to testers and remediators. Definitely recommended. This guy lives to do radon testing!"

"Everything went very well. Mike Doetsch (owner) arrived on time. He asked some questions and explained what he would do and in what order. He inspected the outside of our townhome unit, then he went into the attic. Next, he inspected the second floor of our unit. After that, he inspected the main floor and then the finished basement. Each step of the way, Mike gave us a summary of items he’d found and commented on whether or not an item of concern was related to safety vs. mere cosmetics. We found this very helpful. Mike spent two and a half hours and, in our opinion, was very thorough. The language he used was not technical so he was easy to understand. Before he left, Mike told us when we could expect his written report (just a couple of days). He said he would highlight items that really needed to be addressed (that is, issues of safety). My husband and I were very pleased with Mike’s attention to detail and obvious knowledge of code requirements. He also knew what items are our responsibility and what items are the responsibility of our townhome association. We will definitely ask him to inspect our next home once we find it."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Grayslake, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
