"This is the second time I have used MA Design and Construction for a project in my house. Both times were great. For the most recent job, they framed up a partially finished basement, added carpet, leveled the ceiling, added a door and electrical outlets and insulated and painted the walls. "Roldolfo responded very quickly and was able to accommodate our immediate timeline. He was always on time, very friendly, accommodating, and easy to work with. His skim-coating around two newly installed windows was terrific, and he was kind enough to repair a few additional anchor holes we added after he had begun. That being said, my husband and I fixed several deficiencies with the painting we only noticed after he had left. In a few places, it looked like only one coat of paint was used on the walls and the trim, as a few spotty areas still showed some of the plain white primer underneath – as if the rollers were not sufficiently loaded with paint. Mike Foote impressed me immediately with his promptness - he always arrived at the time he said he would, which to me indicates a level of professionalism, trustworthiness, and respect for my time that I appreciate. 

He also had an understanding and appreciation for older homes and construction methods which I felt would be an asset, as my home was built in the early 1900s and was in need of significant structural repair.  I wanted someone who would be able to handle the unforeseen complications that inevitably arise when major repairs must be done on an older home, and someone who would also seek to respect and retain its personality (quirks and all.)

I bid the project out to several contractors using the same project scope and description.  Mike's estimate was at the lower end of the range and of all the contractors, he took the most time to explain the breakdown of costs.  Furthermore, prior to my awarding the project contract to him, Mike went out of the way to do significant legwork and fact finding related to permitting and local regulations.  He had no obligation to do this, but the effort was greatly appreciated and certainly helped sway my decision in his favor.

It became known to us that we would need to hire a structural engineer to remain in compliance with local inspections and regulations.  Mike did a great job as an intermediate contact for the engineer, and also attempted to keep the project cost and scope expansion under control.

Throughout the project the job site was kept as clean and orderly as could be reasonably expected, which was no small feat given the scope of the work and the confined spaces they were operating in.  

Whenever there was an unexpected complication that required additional work or expense, Mike would take the time to lay out the various options (and the pros and cons of each) for how to proceed.  Throughout the entire project, I found his communication skills to be exemplary.  This was very helpful logistically, since I was often away at work while the project was in flight.  It also established and maintained a sense of trust between us.  Mike would keep me posted with regular status updates, would meet with me regularly to discuss the progress and various issues that he thought should be brought to attention, and was always very responsive to questions I had.  He was very easy to get a hold of, which I appreciated tremendously.

And of course, I am extremely happy with how everything wrapped up.  There was one significant increase in project scope and cost related to the stone footing at grade - something that Mike had warned would throw an element of uncertainty into his estimate - but this was handled very fairly and expertly.  the work looks great, and my neighbors have all commented on the professionalism of his crew and the impressive final outcome. 

I would not hesitate to hire him again for any project in my home - whether it be small or large - and would not hesitate to refer him to friends or family.
