Customers say: Quality work

"I'd had interlocking concrete pavers installed on a previous house and knew how much they improved the value of the property and were virtually maintenance-free. So it didn't take me long to decide to replace a long (about 150 feet) pea gravel-over-asphalt driveway, not only to improve the appearance of the property but to make it easier to wheel the trash barrels to the street! Phil gave me a compelling quote, and offered to include driveway lighting and sealer if I signed on the spot (I knew what my previous job cost, so his quote was accepted). He said it would be 6-8 weeks before the job could be done, and sure enough, eight weeks later the first delivery of pavers was delivered on March 31, 2017 (the job required a total of 15 pallets of pavers, either 6" x 9" or a combination of 3 sizes, to be installed in a random pattern). The three-man crew began work on April 10, 2017, and finished the job three weeks later, on April 28. There were a few scheduling hiccups (deliveries, Bobcat being required on another job, etc.), but overall José, Edgar, and Pepe and a quality job. We are ecstatic about our new driveway, and our neighbors have been highly complimentary, if not downright jealous. The 6" x 9" LED lights embedded in the border of the driveway (each fixture replaces one paver) are dramatic (they're currently programmed to be on when it is dark, but they can also be put on a timer). The job consisted of demolishing the existing concrete garage apron and the existing asphalt driveway that had been covered with pea gravel. All debris was removed. My overseeing the job was important--otherwise, some of the pavers would have been installed onto the neighbor's property. I was also available to answer questions, and to consult on the design and layout of the pavers. We chose a matte-finish natural look for the sealer; because most customers choose the "wet look," the wrong sealer was initially delivered--another reason for me to be present to oversee the project."

"LHB did excellent work! In two days they removed our old patio deck that was heaved and broken by tree roots and poured a new slab that we really like. If we, or anyone in our HOA, needs concrete work done in the future we know who to call. Highly recommend!"

"If you're considering a large-scale home improvement project, you'd be smart to hire CactusNectar! During our first meeting with Scott we explained our vision for our new outbuilding, a 900 sq. ft. pottery studio. He was attentive and fully understood the scope of the project. The architectural plans we gave him turned out to be somewhat lacking, but Scott went above and beyond by meeting the staff at the Oro Valley plans and permits office in person, and correcting our plans using his own team. As a home inspector and former contractor myself, Scott and crew valued my inputs and were amazing to work with. Communication was frequent and follow-up was timely, productive and accurate. Big projects never go as planned, and we made Scott's job tougher by throwing several change orders at him - including three different ceiling designs! His team just rolled on, never showed a hint of frustration, and exceeded our expectations for the highest quality construction and fit-and-finish. Contractors always say "customer satisfaction is #1," but many fail to live up to that. Scott and every member of CactusNectar walk the walk and deliver. They truly got everything right, and we couldn't be happier with our beautiful studio. Thanks to Scott, CJ, Terry, Pablo, Adrian, Carlos, Joe and many others at CactusNectar for truly delivering on a promise and fulfilling a dream!! When we're ready to plan some remodels in our home, Scott will absolutely be the one we call!"

"BS&R concrete are the upmost professionals. They arrived at the time that was agreed upon. Their workers were very friendly and worked extremely hard. This all was stamped concrete which is more labor intensive"

"The steel mailboxes in our community are cemented into roadside masonry pillars. Some unknown miscreant apparently ran into my mailbox (but not the post), damaging the mailbox so extensively that I had to replace it.

I purchased a larger mailbox, and contacted Sergio Verdugo to install it. I did not seek competitive bids, but just asked him to do the job.

Because the new mailbox was larger than the old one, he and his assistant George had to chisel, saw, and jackhammer the concrete pillar to enlarge the hole to house the mailbox. The concrete was hard, about 20 years old, and Sergio complained that it was the hardest concrete he had ever had to deal with.

Hours later the job was done and the mailbox was cemented into place. Unfortunately, Sergio did not check in with me to consult about placement of the new mailbox, so it ended up being inserted into the post farther than I would have liked, was slightly cockeyed, and the clean-up was not ideal (some stucco remained on the mailbox)--hence the lower score for "quality."

The cost was more than I expected it to be, but most likely that is because of the extra time and labor involved in enlarged the cavity. But I'm a newcomer to the area, and have no feeling for what things should cost.

Although I indicated I would use Sergio Verdugo's services again in the future, I will seek competitive bids next time.

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Green Valley, AZ

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
