"The rep suggested several improvements including upgrading to a solar heating system. We are now in the process of installing a solar heating system. With government tax incentives over the next 2 years we will finance $15K. If I just keep paying what I was paying for my monthly power bill towards the solar panels and upgrades the payback is less that 7 years. After which, my electricity is free. System has a 30 year warranty. Looking forward to the installation and will provide feedback once it is installed and in operation."

They replaced our electrical panel, and despite having to work through a number of difficult issues they stayed until all of the work was completed. "We wanted to update our dated kitchen, and needed to upgrade multiple aspects of the electrical. We called Current Electric on recommendation from a friend who had used their services in the past. Through the entire process of replacing the old lighting with more modern fixtures, installing an outlet in the pantry for our toaster oven to free up counter space, and adding a switch under the sink for the new garbage disposal we had plumbers install beforehand, these contractors were friendly, professional and knowledgable. They worked in a timely manner that allowed us to stress less about the project and enjoy the new look and function of our updated kitchen. Everything works just how we had hoped and we intend to use their services for any future electrical work."

"The electrician from Star Power Electrical Contractors was absolutely amazing! When I first tried upgrading my own panel from a YouTube video, I got electrocuted and felt completely defeated. But then this guy shows up, friendly, professional and not an ounce of judgment. Hes the Planet fitness of electricians! Thankyou Star Power for turning my frown upside down!"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Greenville, SC

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
