Customers say: Quality work

"Jason replaced our existing newell posts and railing with modern posts hand rails and metal horizontal balusters. The end result looks great, just how we wanted! Jason is very detail oriented, takes his time to do the job right and communicates effectively so we knew exactly what to expect. Highly recommend!"

"Ken replaced the old wood and screens on my back porch. He stained all of the new wood and installed it. He also re-screened the porch. He also painted the garage door."

"He was fantastic! I hired this company to replace all baseboards and door casings. He did the job perfectly, showed up when he said he would be here, and cleaned up after himself. I would highly recommend this company."

"I had water damage in the ceiling below my upstairs bathroom. Chris did an excellent job, not only repairing the drywall, but matching the texture in my ceiling (no stencil is available for this anymore). He took the time to match and blend, and you would not know this has been replaced. He and his crew were on time, courteous, and his estimate for this repair was very reasonable. I would highly recommend his company, and have already given his number to friends and family."

Hi there! I have about 9 years of experience with home remodeling, house flips, and currently I am focused more on carpentry (custom closets, interior/exterior trim, etc.) and flooring. I am still open to most home repair needs. I am new to Angi, but feel free to check out some photos of my work in the project photos. I am also willing to share more photos. Feel free to email me at JMDhomeservices1@gmail.com or call/text at 3179032308. Thanks!

"So the guys came and put in the door. No wood left for me to try to match stain to and none provided by Matt as promised, and as mentioned in earlier review. Now found out when we went to stain doors that there was a pretty big gap left at the top between the new door frame and the wall, thus anything such as cold air, etc. could get in. Not only that but on the side, the shims that they put in were there and never caulked. Also, the top piece of trim around the new door was loose already and we have hardly used the door. Not very pleased with this and feel that Matt thought I was a dumb because I am a woman and treated me as if I knew nothing. I needed the wood that they had as not all wood takes stain the same way, as I tried to tell Matt, but he would not get the wood to me as promised. Feel that he promised great service and did not deliver. Would not use again."

"Bill and his brother did a great job! First, Bill came out a week before our scheduled date to see what we were working with. He gave me advice how to remove the stairs myself. On the installation day, they went above and beyond with reattaching the stairs. The stairs are more sturdy than they were before, they are now even, and they corrected the height of the first step (before, the first step was too steep), he also installed a second hand rail to keep the stairs up to code. Again, he went above and beyond and the price was very reasonable. Excellent customer service, and Bill is an honest and upstanding guy! I will definitely hire him in the future if need be.

"I signed a contract with Brickey Construction, Inc. in late August, and they built a garage extension and a driveway in September and October for me. I was very pleased with everything. The quality of the construction was very good. They were very open and very transparent in everything. They kept me informed of what was going on. I think the quality was excellent and I am very happy with them. In fact I have them coming back for another job. This was a garage extension that took me from two car to four car, but the reason is that the garage was not finished from the inside. So I am having the inside of both garages finished. They are going to do the drywall and that is starting next week."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Greenwood, IN

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
