"Pete and his team did an exception job of landscaping and reshaping and sodding the yard. I vetted 4 other companies before deciding to go with Pete. He did not tell me what I wanted to hear, but what is really needed in this environment for low maintenance etc. His prices were below his competitors and his quality of work and communication were more than what I expected. He even moved some sprinkler heads around and changed them out with his inventory to meet the needs. We went with Empire Zoysia per his recommendation and I get no less than 2 compliments a week of cars and walkers stopping by to tell us how well this looks. Make no mistake! Baytown Landscaping will be my point for all future landscaping needs."

"Pros: Matt is a hard working guy, operates solo which saves on labor costs, friendly and responsive to texts when hired and ambitiously took project on Cons: follow through and project completion. Initially plan was for backyard sod install, weed application front and back, and leftover sod installed in front followed by topsoil dressing back and front. Initially underestimated amount of sod needed and compensated the extra pallet which was great customer service. But then, What actually happened: backyard installed, no top dressing, and leftover was put in side yard and additional pieces just left in garden. Nothing applied to front yard, so i called him on seeing this - then on request paid additional to have him come back to get this done. We then still had extra pieces I installed myself, but communication was then an issue as the plan was to return with top dressing within the next month because his supplier was out. Stopped responding to text or calls. Unfortunately, as a small business, he is at a tough disadvantage if anything needs to be compensated. Although he underestimated initially, he made up for it. I paid more than quoted amount, however, and was still under the impression the quoted project would be completed, however he stopped responding for over 2 weeks and considered it finished instead because he felt that compensating one issue made up for not doing the other, though these are two different tasks. We discussed and there was no compromising. I respect his effort and certainly donâ t want to bring down any small businesses but would recommend hiring him with reservations - though you may save on costs, the follow through can be a little harder in his position, especially if supply issues like we experienced."

"IMPERIAL LANDSCAPING CONCEPTS was my chosen landscaping company to design and deliver an appropriate stylistic landscape redesigned to enhance the road appeal of our home. I was impressed by the level of professionalism displayed by Imperial Landscaping Concepts beginning with the face-to-face meetings with the owner, landscaping architecture designer and project manager. Imperial Landscaping Concepts discussed each phase of my project with me to ensure the ideas and inspiration were understood while establishing a realistic timeline. To my surprise, Imperial Landscaping Concepts has developed over the years a one-stop-shop, which includes a network skilled craftsman who are personally engaged in the overall success of reaching the end vision of the design. Throughout the project, Imperial Landscaping Concepts retained my trust and confidence based upon the quality work ethic demonstrated along with their attention to the details. Imperial Landscaping Concepts provided all services required to complete my project, to include; the demolition and removal of the old walkway, stone design/color for paver walkways, patio, retaining walls and flower beds, the redesign and expansion of the irrigation system, electrical work for the installation of the ground lighting, and the skillful selection of indigenous flowering plants, shrubs and trees creating the vision of an English Gardens. Imperial Landscaping Concepts has transformed my yard into a neighborhood showplace. Imperial Landscaping Concepts has proven their quality performance while remaining grounded in good business practices. I highly recommended Imperial Landscaping Concepts for residential of commercial properties seeking the array of services provided by Imperial Landscaping Concepts. "I had a large area in my front yard that I treated for fungus every year with various degrees of success. I finally decided to take care of it. I called Creative and Dan came over and we discussed ways to deal with it. BTW, Dan is very personable fellow, a joy to converse with. In the end we removed the suspect grass and what was underneath it, filled it with new soil and sodded it with new St. Augustein. The crew did a nice job and I'm glad I went with Creative. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"

"We hired New Creations to renovate our front yard landscaping. Bobby and his crew did a great job translating our ideas into plants and the infrastructure. We paid $3,800 to set up a low-maintenance front yard with a drip line, terraced flower beds, an ornamental tree, stacked stone detail, and an address plinth. We're very happy with the final results and received a lot of compliments. We will definitely hire them again in the future!"

FAQs for sod installation projects in Gulf Breeze, FL

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
