"Dan Keller and team do a very good job. They replace my roof as well as installed a solar panel system. They provide timely responses, show up on time and are priced reasonably. They are also very good at follow up on post installation matters."

"Myself and my father has used MJA Contracting for two roofs in our houses in Jersey City. Both times Manuel and his team has taken good care of us and installed good roofs. At first I thought the price was a bit high but after I saw the amount of time, material, and workmanship that they completed I thought the price was very fair. Roofs are alot of work as I learned. What I especially liked about Manuel is he did not go cheap and install a torch down rubber roof. He installed a rubber EPDM roof instead. If you have a flat roof, do yourself a favor and install a rubber EPDM membrane and make sure to contact Manuel. He also rebuilt our chimneys very good as well. Excellent masons! I guarantee you will not be disappointed!"

"There are many roofing companies to choose from in the local area where I reside. I would highly recomm All Complete Construction, LLC based on their professionalism, responsiveness, and punctual work ethic. The roof installation went very smoothly and the final product looks incredible. "There was a company through Angie’s List that I got a package deal, they would do some patch work on roof. Very good experience. I had a problem in one spot and they patched it up for me. I’ve not had a problem with that at all, that section of the roof. Price was good, the package deal was to cover a 10x10 spot and that was basically what I needed, it worked out well. Very good quality. The only problem I had with them was the fellow I did deal with, his office had to get back to me. I always needed to call him, it happened 2 or 3 times and then he would make the call and they would respond. Other than that they were spot on, very good."

"After getting five estimates I decided to choose Safe Trust Roofing. The project manager, Mike Stone, that visited my husband and I was very knowledgeable. He was very professional and offered the best products and warranties at a great price. He took his time and explained everything. The new GAF Timberline Roof with new gutters and leaders came out amazing. We also recieved a lifetime warranty to protect our investment. Everyone from the company including the installers were very professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone"

"The 35-yr old roof of our co-op tenement building was failing after years of patches and temporary fixes. Several contractors  proposed installing a modern thermoplastic commercial roof sealing layer over the old roof.   We also had a few other jobs that needed doing on the roof. Vandelay's proposal and pricing were competitive yet realistic.  *Everything* for the job had to be approved by the co-op Board; Bob was extremely patient and diligent about answering all questions, explaining and personally demonstrating to Board members what work would be done.  When worked was finally Board-approved,it proceeded quickly and finished within the promised time frame. Our roof is now leakproofed withe a 30-year guarantee, we have a nice new skylight, and our rain drain is working again.  .

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Hackettstown, NJ

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
