"Dave was professional and provided an excellent estimate for the roof replacement. The estimate was higher than other competitive costs and we selected a different provider but I was impressed with Dave's professionalism and his demeanor."

"Extremely satisfied with the exterior repairs Velasquez Roofing LLC completed on my home. They replaced my rotting fascia boards and repaired the foyer entrance using Hardie board, and the final result looks spectacular. The crew was professional, knowledgeable, and meticulous about cleaning up every day. They handled a tricky, tedious job with skill and were very transparent about the process, cost, and were extremely helpful with suggestions of material. The new siding in the front door area blends in perfectly with the surrounding brick. I highly recommend them for quality work!"

"On 2/18/13 Mr. walker came to my home to give me an estimate.  He walked the roof and checked for potential trouble spots and made a list of all materials needed to fix and repair my roof.  I liked the estimate ( which was a couple of thousand cheaper than the competetors and two major brand stores) and the knowledge he showed about how my roof could be fixed.  On 2/22/13 Mr. Walker and his crew showed up to do the work.  They were only able to finish the shed due to rain.  The foreman asked if he could come back on 3/24/13 (a Sunday) to fininsh the house.  I said this would not be a problem.  On 3/24/13 they showed up at 8:00AM to work on the house.  The roof was finished by 5:00PM that afternoon.  They found some minor flashing damage that was not in the estimate that they repaired at no extra cost.  Each time they performed any work they cleaned all trash and debris from they yard and left it like they found it.  They ran a yard magnet over the yard around the house to get any stray nails they had missed.  They didn't get all the nails up but, that is to be expected with a job this size.  The crew was very professional and answered all of my questions.

"Southern Leisure Builders installed our sun room in the summer Spring of 2018. This particular year there were many days of rain, and as you may recall, Hurricane Florence inundated us with her presence. This caused our project to be quite delayed. But Southern Leisure persevered and they finally completed it at the end of summer, not too far after Florence arrived. Our sunroom survived, but it did flood. As a result, Southern Leisure had to come out and drill some weep holes under the windows to prevent this. Not sure if this was a design flaw or install flaw.  Fast forward to March 2020. I accidentally shot a rock from my lawn tractor and it struck one of the hurricane proof windows, the fixed pane. The entire unit had to be replaced. This occurred while North Carolina was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the state was shut down. I called Southern Builders and left a voice message. Within 5 minutes, someone called me and assured me they would place the order for the replacement but could not install until construction workers were allowed to work again. I am happy to report the work was completed on June 26, 2020. They did such a good job putting everything back that my wife still has not realized the window has already been replaced. Aside from Mother Nature and scheduling delays, you should be pleased with their work. My wife and I enjoy using our sun room all year long."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Hampstead, NC

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
