"This is a review of just the design consultation. We are still evaluating proposals and have not decided who to hire for the actual project. This was a $199 Angie's Big Deal for kitchen design consultation. Direct Depot promptly contacted me for a measurement appt. The measurer came out and measured and took pictures and had a brief discussion of what we had in mind. It wasn't very collaborative though -- he wasn't a designer. About a week after the measurements we were contacted by Melissa, our designer. We visited Direct Depot to look at the showroom and worked with Melissa on the kitchen design. She had some good ideas and was willing to show us any of the samples we wanted to see. I would have felt more confident if Melissa had actually been the person to visit our home. Because she was working solely off of photos and measurements I'm not sure she was able to get as good of picture as some other companies that we used for design work. But all in all Melissa developed a very nice design. She also gave us the referral information for people to contact for installation, countertops, appliances, etc. The quote for cabinets was a little high but not out of our range. About a week after that meeting we received a quote for installation/demo/renovation services and for countertops. The reason for the B grade for price is that we got the same service from another company for free, and yet another company for $149 (another Big Deal). So while we were happy with what we received, it was more expensive than other comparable services. <br />"

"They were available. I called other people and they weren't available. He came by and gave me an estimate that morning. He told me I could call him by noon to let him know. He gave me a chance to think about it and I could have called him later. But I needed it done that day or I wanted it done that day. He came back with a crew of 2 other guys and they removed the snow. I had some damage in the house and because they were contractors I asked him to assess the damage and give me an estimate they would charge to fix it. He came and looked at it and I haven't heard from him. I guess they didn't need the business or maybe it was an oversight. I want to call him back because I now have the insurance check and want to set it up and get it done when the weather breaks over here. Initially, the price for the snow removal appeared to be expensive to me, but I don't know in comparison to what. I didn't have any other choices and I wanted it done right then and there. The job was done. I had to ask them to take off a couple of icicles in the back of the house after they took off the snow, otherwise they wouldn't have taken the icicles down. I had icicles that were at least 7 feet long. They would have been potential deathtraps if they had fallen on somebody."

"I contacted Shnaitman's Flooring America after another contractor Did a substandard ceramic tile floor install. <br /> The people at Flooring America are very Professional, and are extremely Knowledgeable about all aspects of flooring. <br /> After visiting Flooring America and choosing a tile for size and color, John Schnaitman came to my home, <br /> measured the floor drew an exact sketch of the how the tiles would be layed out, <br /> and gave me an estimate on the spot. <br /> John the made a few suggestions on how to get the floor prepped for the new install (because I removed the old floor myself). <br /> The installers were very polite and professional and did the install of the ceramic tile floor. <br /> The floor came out Excellent and I am 100% pleased with the way this job came out. <br /> The bottom line here is Hire people that do the type of work you are looking to get done. <br /> Schnaitman's does flooring and keeps up on the flooring industry. <br /> I would recommend Scnaitman's Flooring America to anyone looking to have ANY type of tile work or flooring done. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Hawley, PA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
