"We are so pleased with the work that was done. We had a failing, ill-constructed concrete retaining wall. They removed it, cleaned up the debris and seeded/covered the area. When we asked to them to create a wooden guard rail, they were very accommodating. We plan on having the help us with future projects."

"Guillermo and his crew did a wonderful job completing the three projects I needed done. They expertly fixed my sliding glass doors on 2 of my bathtubs. They also power washed my entire downstairs patio that had accumulated a ton of pollen/mold over the years. My patio was sparkling and ready for guests afterwards. They also fixed my front screen door so it could close properly. I would hire this business in a New York second if I ever needed repair work done again in my home. "

"We bought a home that had a salt pool in the back yard. I was only familiar with chlorine pools. I interviewed/met with several pool companies before calling Jessica w Signature Pools. As soon as I talked to Jessica I knew Signature Pools was the company for me. They came weekly and did a beautiful job. They were professional, thorough, and always left detailed paperwork on what they did to the pool that day. I had a step by step analysis of the chemicals used in the pool as well as what the pool's chemical breakdown was. I am thankful to have found Signature Pools and highly recommend Jessica and her team! <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Highlands, NC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
