"Stuart's painting did a fantastic job! Bruce and his co-worker were very professional, courteous and on time, in fact they were here early. The porch/ stairs they replaced look great, much better than the original. I would highly recommend Stuart's painting and will use them again for future projects."

"I had a horrendous paint job done by a local hack who did super on interior but did not know what he was doing when he said he can do exterior, too. It failed in 6 months. So I waited almost five years to write this review to see how it would hold up. So far so great! They did an excellent job of prep which in my case was scraping down to bare cedar clapboards and even indulged my anxiety and primed the 50 year old galvanized nail heads which also got scraped of course. They got me in touch with a contractor who did some wood repair quickly (although I have not had as much luck getting them back to do other stuff, guess Clarke had the magic touch there). Joe did most of the work back then on my house and he was excellent. He stayed on it till it was done, no disappearing acts. I recommended Clarke to a neighbor for interior work and they liked them too."

"I was very impressed with my first contact with Brian Houston. I posted a message on Angie's List and he promptly called me back. He was friendly and professional.  <br /> Our house was painted by Brett Hall and his father, Dave. The have worked together with Houston Painting in the past and cover more of southern Maine. Brett was responsive to my emails up until the start date. They showed up promptly on the first day and performed all the work very efficiently and with excellent quality. They were very neat as well. <br /> I would not hesitate to use Brett Hall and Houston Painting again. Highly recommended. <br />"

"My deck going from ground level to the second story entrance was in bad condition. Over the years the footers were pushed up out of the ground due to frost heaves.  The deck was warped, the stairs and railing were loose and the entire deck was dangerously close to falling down.  After contacting John, we met on the agreed upon date and he assesed the damage and issued a quote.  His work was excellent, he was quick, and fairly priced.  I will use Perreault & daughters Construction for any additional home repair/remodeling projects."

"Brendon (the owner of the business) completed the work over two days. On the first day, he brought another employee, and on the second day he worked solo. I was struck by how steadily they worked; it seemed like they were mudding within minutes of walking in, and throughout the day I heard constant sanding and scraping and mixing of joint compound - they worked for eight or nine hours and I never really noticed them taking a break. Brendon and Rick were pleasant and courteous, and were also really clean. Obviously, sheetrock is pretty dusty stuff, so there's bound to be *some* dust no matter how hard anyone tries to minimize it, but Brendon and Rick made very little mess, and cleaned up the vast majority of it. In fact, on the first day they worked (mudding and sanding upstairs, in the finished basement, and in the dining room and entry way) Brendon and Rick finished up with their work at around 4:30, and we had guests over for dinner at 6:15 with minimal wiping down of surfaces in the dining room. The work was done in two full days of work, and was consistent with the estimate we received. Now we're planning on having him trim out some windows and take care of some other finish work as well."

"Came out to do an estimate on Friday and started and completed work on Tuesday! This was a section of our roof that was over our sunroom that had suffered prior ice damming. Ryan and his crew picked up where my husband had left off after realizing the job was too much for us to attempt. He even cleaned up our mess along with his own and saved us from making a mistake with the wrong type of roofing material. I would def use this company again!! <br />"

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Hiram, ME

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
