"My concrete porch had cracks and was sinking in a couple of areas. They applied an overlay to the whole porch. The overlay developed a problem within a few days. Ben and Monty responded to my concerns immediately. They came back within a week and fixed the problem. I am very satisfied with the job they did."

"We are very pleased with the service we received from Good Neighbor Fencing. Bob Stewart was great to work with. He helped us select and design a fence that would work well in the space we planned to enclose. He also took notice of our dogs and suggested smaller spacing between the rails on the fence to be sure our smaller dog did not get out of the backyard once we had it fenced in. In addition to being very pleased with working with Bob, we were extremely happy with the installation that Vernon and Joe did. They were careful to ensure that the fence was installed properly and even went so far as to hand-dig the post holes so that they did not do any damage to our irrigation system and underground electric fence. All that said, my husband and I would recommend Good Neighbor Fencing without reservation."

"While Wes was very affordable this is clearly a situation where you get what you pay for. We had asked Wes to insert a small door in a wall that would allow us to access storage space under our stairs. While the quote was very reasonable and included the materials and trim for the door, the overall quality of the work was low. Wes and his assistant rushed creating the opening never once using a tape to measure the dimensions resulting in over cuts and not a very clean finish. Had it not been me offering them my level, I am not sure they would have used one to ensure the opening was square or the door was hung properly. To his credit, Wes? assistant seemed frustrated with Wes? aggressive and rushed approach and seemed willing to be more patient in trying to determine dimensions more properly. The door itself was made from low grade 1/4 to 1/3 inch plywood and while we clearly did not expect something much more exotic given his quote, at the very least a suitable thickness (even if meant paying a little extra) should have been used. Within several hours of Wes leaving the door was warping due to the poor and thin material choice. When cutting the door they used our garbage can rather than a sawhorse to rest the wood on, and proceeded to dismiss our request not to do so.  The screws used for the hinges were also too long and as a result poke through on the backside of the door creating the potential to either catch clothes or injure oneself. To their credit they did an excellent job cleaning up at the end, thoroughly sweeping and picking up debris, sloppy cleanup is always a pet peeve of mine so I was impressed by this.
Upon ?completion? I expressed my disappoint at the quality of work and while Wes was very reasonable and accepted a lower price than initially quoted, overall I was left with the impression that this was not professional-grade work. I think Wes has good intentions and likely is excellent for certain projects but given our expectations regarding level of finish, we will not use him again. I would encourage future customers to be clear on the exact expected quality level of work/finish as this was a deficiency on my part and should have been clarified at the outset rather than assumed, particularly in-light of his cost and time estimate.

"Hector and his crew did a fine job powerwashing and removing the dirty northside stains on our roof, including a portion that was metal. They also powerwashed our back porch and our chicken coop roof (metal) and its cedar siding; they all look sooooo much better! Definitely plan to use them again on more projects in the future. Prices were reasonable and service was timely and professional."

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Richmond, VA

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
