"Creation Iron Design did a fabulous job of creating an elegant custom railing for a staircase to our lower level which curved in line with our baseboard. Mario and crew were extremely professional, punctual and accommodated our very tight timeline. I would highly recommend!"

"I needed them to get the job done by the 15th (or it was going to run into other very important things I had going on, so had them scheduled to start the job 4 days before this (in case they needed to rrepalce the roof boards with plywood). Well (because of another job they had) they showed-up on the 14th. This did cause me a headache as the job ran to the 16th. I was at the home doing other work when they started the job and I kept an eye on their work. When stripping the roof (of both the shingles and the wood boards, a lot of this rubble filled-up the brand-new soffet vent boxes I had built -my home did not have soffets/soffet vents or a ridge vent before I started my renovations). After stripping and dropping the chimney, one of the younger workers on the roof started to plywood the roof and I noticed he was installing the plywood over the top of the soffet vent (as they should), but without cleaning all the rubble out of them! This would mean the roof/attic would not vent propery (the air would not be able to go through these vents and up to the ridge vent (thus negating all my work of installing soffet vents and them installing a roof vent). I brought this to the attention of the younger worker on the roof (who's attitude was like, 'oh, ya'); Either he didn't know the importance of making sure the roof vented properly -which is unacceptable for a roofer- or he didn't care. I brought up my shop-vac and stood there while he vacuumed all the rubble out of the portion of the soffet he just covered (I had to go to work eventually and left the crew my shop-vac in the hopes they would vacuum out the rest as they went along -the older guy who ran the crew from the ground completely understood my concern about the rubble in the soffet vent and assured me the rest would be cleaned-out before they put the plywood over it (I do believe this was done because he was not too happy with the younger guy up on the roof for overlooking this -or getting caught overlooking this). The price was good for the work done (about mid-range in the quotes from other companies I had come by and look at the job -all from Angie's List). The job was completed in two days (so once stared, they moved pretty fast), and from what I watched them do: Installing about half the plywood, some of the the ice/water shield, shingles, etc, and the way it looks completed, it appears to be a solid job (and I've had no leaks to this point). And to their credit, they did comply with my on-job request to drop-in the plastic vents that run between the rafters (and connect the soffets to the ridge vent) on one half of the roof before they put the plywood down (this added about 15-20 min to the overall job -I could get these vents in on the other half of the roof myself from the attic). However, the fact that I had to catch the rubble in the soffets and that they didn't show-up when scheduled (and that I'm still chasing them down for a copy of the final invoice), I will not go with them when it's time to do the other side of the roof...or perhaps I will, if I can take the day of from work and 'supervise' the job"

"I was quite pleased with this company in many ways. The owner, Mr. Stearns was very accommodating, kindly, and talented. He made the utmost effort to deal with any issues that came up, even showing up during a period when he had a health problem. The kitchen is beautiful. Prior to the estimate, the owner, Brad Stearns, helped me with the design I had in mind. He had some very good ideas and was very patient. He has an artistic side, which I enjoyed. The estimate was very thorough and professional. The actual work began essentially on time. I was delighted to see the plastic sheeting go up and the protection of my hall floor with paper and my kitchen floor, which I was keeping, with some special material. (I should mention however, that somehow the floor nonetheless got some major scrapes but I don't know if the appliance people did that since the protective sheeting came up and the appliances arrived the same day.) Adjustments had to be made as we went along, and I appreciated the creativity that went into resolving them. That included, loaning me a new hot plate, as we had decided to attempt cooking in the dining room! There were 3 issues involving the granite countertop. First, the edging design was not what I had wanted. We never were able to establish whose fault that was. Even though I settled for the edge that the granite people had made, I appreciated Brad's effort to resolve it. The second issue was that the fabricator/installer created about 10 four inch round black marks on the granite backsplash. Brad got them to fix it. The final counter issue was that immediatley upon cooking, black marks appeared perhaps from cooking oil. Brad gave me some printed information about dealing with this issue and some stain remover suggestions, but I wish he had told me this drawback when I was thinking about counter materials. This is a lesson for helping future homeowners. There was also a counter cabinet issue, seemingly related to to the IKEA undercabinets or footings themselves. With the top, it was 2 inches taller than average. I am 4 inches shorter than average so this remains as a problem. I believe the lesson learned is to think of a solution before a short person goes ahead with IKEA counters. Another issue was that the electrician, plumber, and carpenter did not pick up very well after their work. Nonetheless and all in all, Brad was so accommodating, the price was right, and the work turned out so nicely, I would definitely recommend him."

"Overall we were happy with the outcome of our projects.  Bob was the member of Ken's team that did the bulk of the construction work, and really he was a pleasure to have in our house, always courteous and really went out of his way to help out with things that were outside the scope of the actual work (e.g. we had a dishwasher leak completely unrelated to anything else happening, and he cleaned that all up for us and even helped install a new dishwasher).
I'll go through each of the sub-projects:
BATHROOMS
We are very happy with the bathrooms.  The designer for the team, Sandy, did an awesome job with the bathroom plans and helping with the selection of all the finishes for the bathrooms.  (Sandy also helped us with paint selections for the rest of the house.)  Ken's tile guys do an excellent job.  When we purchased this house the bathrooms were a real sore spot (nearly stopped us from buying it), but now we have 2 bathrooms that we really love.  Our only complaint here is that we had 2 custom cabinets (one small bi-fold closet and one larger medicine cabinet) that are not quite up to the same level of quality as the rest of the bathroom.
HVAC
This was subcontracted through Tim Kerins Heating and Cooling.  They installed 2 units, one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs, converting our existing forced hot water baseboard heat to ducted forced hot air in the process.  This ultimately took much longer than we anticipated to complete, but we are happy with the outcome.  We did have a problem where the upstairs unit had a minor leak, and Tim came out quickly the next day to fix that.
CEILINGS
These came out great; the plasterers did quick work and there was no evident loss of height in plastering over the existing textured ceilings.
PAINTING
We had some significant issues with the painting.  The original group Ken subcontracted was terrible -- painted no more than one room per day, got paint on our couch and floor, was generally sloppy with edges and corners, and then abandoned the project when only about 1/4 complete and were never heard from again.  After several days of no showing and no word, Ken brought in a second group which did a much better job.  However, even they left some of the work unfinished (predominantly because the bathrooms/etc were still under construction), and so the job was ultimately finished by Ken's team (Bob, specifically).  There are still some areas that really could use some touch-up; nothing significant or obvious on a first pass, but with a fine eye there are areas where the old paint color bleeds through a bit or there is a touch of paint where it shouldn't be -- things that would be normal if we had painted it ourselves, but which really are not up to par for a professional painting service.
NEW WINDOWS
Ken recommended and installed Harvey windows for the whole house, which was a nice upgrade over what appeared to be original 1970s windows.  They completed the entire project in 1 day (after a lag time for ordering the windows), which was impressive.
UPSTAIRS REDESIGN (conversion of small bedroom to master closet)
Bob and co. closed off the original entrance to the room and opening up a doorway from the master bedroom.  It looks seamless, as if that's the way it always was.
GENERAL COMMENTS
We were happy in the end with the quality of the work.  However there were several hiccups in the process (most notably with the painting) that were very frustrating at the time.  The project itself could have been better organized and planned, and that probably would have gone smoother if Ken was there supervising on a more regular basis (he only ever came by if there was a problem or to pick up his payments).  Admittedly, we were under significant stress having just purchased and moved into this house, and with a fast approaching deadline of 2 babies on the way; and it's never ideal to be living in the house when so much work is taking place.

FAQs for wrought iron fence installation projects in Holden, MA

Galvanizing is the best way to keep rain from eating away at your wrought iron fence. The process coats each bar in a thin layer of zinc, sealing out moisture and blocking rust. Most panels come pre-galvanized, but you’ll still want to wash and repaint every few years to keep that shield intact.

Skipping galvanization may save a few dollars up front, yet you’ll spend far more later repairing corrosion or replacing sections outright.

Expect to pay more for wrought iron than for wood at the outset, but iron wins the long game. A standard wood fence runs $1,700 to $3,900, yet you’ll sand, stain, and eventually replace it. Wrought iron may double that initial tab, but it can last 50 to 100 years with a quick paint job every few seasons. Factor in fewer repairs and less upkeep, and iron often edges out wood on lifetime cost.

Hiring a pro to paint wrought iron runs $8 to $10 per linear foot, a price that covers careful prep, rust removal, and high-grade paint for long-term protection. DIY-ers can trim that labor bill, but you’ll need quality brushes, rust-inhibiting primer, and time to apply multiple thin coats. Skimp on prep or materials, and the finish will peel sooner, forcing you back to square one.

A well-maintained wrought iron fence easily lasts 50 to 100 years. Plan to wash it annually and sand-and-repaint every two to three years to keep rust from gaining a foothold. If you spot flakes or pitting early, touch-up paint stops corrosion in its tracks. When in doubt, a local fence pro can walk you through a maintenance schedule tailored to your climate.

Homeowners choose wrought iron fencing because it delivers exceptional security and a timeless aesthetic. This fence offers robust protection that deters intruders while providing a classic look that elevates property curb appeal.

Its construction from high-grade materials ensures lasting durability and reduces maintenance needs. The design also enhances home value and offers consistent strength and elegance.

Wrought iron fencing is available exclusively through certified local fence installation companies and reputable specialized suppliers. This source guarantees high-quality materials and professional installation that adhere to strict performance standards.

Homeowners will find that these trusted providers deliver materials backed by quality control and expert support, ensuring an investment that meets both durability and aesthetic expectations.
