"My main beef is that I was not advised, nor really consulted, about my options as to WHERE the huge PVC pipe can go. As such, it was placed in the middle of the garage wall and I lost 10 inches of width on that side of the garage. Maybe if a pre-inspection had been done, it would have been different, but I feel that Larry should have advised me on the phone, BEFORE the day of installation, that I should think about where the pipe should go. I think the installers, also, should have given more consideration as to where it should go, and told me the advantages and disadvantages of a certain placement. A second concern is that the EPA recommends that the cracks in the basement floor be sealed AFTER the installation since the vacuum will suck good air thru the basement cracks. No mention of this recommendation was made. If Radon Detection and Control doesn't want to do this, that's fine, but at least advise me that it should be done."

"Rob is great! He is very knowledgeable and professional. He performed a full home inspection for me and took extra time walking me though his findings and answering any questions. His report was thorough and easy to read with photos, including drone images of the roof. Rob also coordinated the pest, radon, and sewer test, making the entire process easy. I am a full time realtor, and with every home inspector in the area to contact, I chose Inspectioneering LLC to perform my personal home inspection. I have had so many clients share their good experiences with me that I would look nowhere else. Thank you Rob!"

"Other inspectors in my area didn't offer Radon and Mold.  Instead of having to hire two inspectors to get all the tests I wanted, I was able to get everything in one stop.  Dan was very thorough, explained everything in detail and was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the inspection.  He pointed out issues that could have snuck up on us in the future and cost us thousands.  He pointed out local regulation violations as well as state violations so that we knew what was priority in fixing.  He was open, honest and offered tips on replacing/repairing certain items.  <br /> He tested the septic and pointed out that after 60 gallons of water he was seeing the dye.  He explained that normally a good septic system wouldn't see dye until after 300 gallons.  He tore apart the spring house in order to look at all areas of the water running through it.  He pointed out areas of concern and what to watch for in the future, but explained that it won't be an issue.  He pointed out that the roof needed replaced and explained in detail what to look for as far as the shingles curling.  He also pointed out that the OSB under the roof was in perfect condition.  He cautioned us that some contractor may tell us we need to replace the board as well and showed my husband in detail that this was not the case, we only needed to put new shingles up.  He pointed out leaks in the propane lines, water lines, and minor electrical issues that needed repaired.  He explained what the code was and why everything needed repaired or replaced.  He also added what level of priority was and that some things could wait and others could not. <br /> He was very thorough and complete.  My husband was very impressed and said he was very pleasant to work with. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Homer City, PA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
