"We had our downstairs door kicked in on Dec 10th and the robbers just absolutely destroyed the door, the frame and the jam. That night we tried to fix it as best we could but the whole thing was just mangled and we were left just short of a giant gaping hole in the house. (Right as a winter storm hit, naturally.) We live in an older home so naturally the door size and shape would need to be custom ordered. This of course took a few weeks for Dave to receive the door from the manufacturer it had been ordered from. It came in right around Christmas day. Dave had set an appointment to come install it Christmas Eve day (Seriously how nice is that?) but due to a family issue had to re-schedule for January. He was out yesterday promptly on time and was done really quickly even though he had to move the door over and re-set and shim the whole frame and jam. The door fits so snugly now, the weather stripping and threshold are way better than even before it got kicked in! "Russ (and family) was great to work with and did high quality work. He came by to give us a quote on expansion of window openings, moving door openings, etc. He informed us that we had structural brick (only a wooden header which was only allowed for several years before the technique was banned). He let us know he would not do the work until we spoke with a structural engineer because of this. As new owners of this old house, we were very happy to have someone who was knowledgeable of the way our house was built and was able to guide us to ensure our home remained structurally sound. He helped us come up with a plan to do the work we needed to fit his and our scheduled remodeling steps. We're extremely happy and impressed with the work. You can't tell where brick was added. The colors match better than we ever expected. It was also great to work with a true family business! Sometimes the kids would come help and his dad showed up on occasion as well. I highly recommend Russ for his craftsmanship, knowledge and work quality! Following is a bit more detail on the work and results. We expanded nearly all windows and doors in our 1959 brick house. We also added two sliding doors to the back of the house. There was a regular swinging door that needed to be bricked over. Because of all of the added openings, we had lots of extra brick. Russ was able to clean and reuse our original brick window sills and tooth in every opening. You know when you drive around an older neighborhood and you can see the brickwork from the street? Not from Russ. You absolutely cannot tell where he toothed anything in. Our mortar color isn't available anymore. He is so experienced, he mixed it by eye and it matches perfectly. Russ was also instrumental in other things. He helped the window people measure correctly and gave us structural advice that the first engineer missed. Russ may not be the cheapest, but you do get what you pay for."
