"I set up an appointment for a quote from Cape Fear based on a recommendation from a neighbor, and Justin came on time (he actually called and asked if it would be OK if he came early). He was easy to work with, seemed very knowledgeable, and very thorough as he looked at my current setup and discussed the various options for replacement. I liked some of the recommendations he made as far as adjusting some of the duct routing to ease air flow. I decided to have him quote a 2-ton Trane XL16c packaged AC / Gas Furnace unit and XL16c hybrid (AC and gas furnace / heat pump), which was brand new at the time - it wasn't even in their system yet. When I was provided with a quote, the paper listed the 3-ton unit since the 2-ton unit was so new, but Justin assured me that the price was for the 2-ton unit. I received another quote for the same unit from a different company, and the price was significantly lower. So, I went back to Justin and asked him to double check the price. He did confirm that the price listed on my quote was for a 3-ton unit and provided a new number for the 2-ton unit, but I was left with a bad feeling over what would have happened if I hadn't received a competitive quote and questioned them. Also, the other company I dealt with talked with the Trane rep, and stated while the XL16C gas pack was available in a 2-ton unit, the hybrid unit (with gas furnace and heat pump) was not available in a 2-ton unit. This quote process was at the end of December, and they offered an extra $500 off if we would install before the end of the year. Would they have taken the money for a 3-ton unit and only delivered a 2-ton unit, or would they have realized the error when I went to pay and said 'we quoted you the wrong price'? If I ordered the hybrid unit and paid for a 2-ton unit, what would have been delivered? These could have been honest mistakes or not - I really have no way of knowing. In the end, I didn't feel comfortable with the way the quote process went, so I decided to go with another vendor."

"The professionalism of the service provider was great. The price for the installation services was atrocious. I was charged nearly $1800.00, most of it going to installation fees. Examples: To replace a $10.00 diverter valve which took 15 minutes, the installation fee ~$245.00. The fans cost around $300.00. The installation charge over $800.00. The hose bib cost ~$6.00, installation fee was $290.00. Future customers should be aware of these excessively high installation fees."

"My call to the office was very pleasant. She discussed the types of HWH's they use, sizes, and approximate costs. She also reminded me to print the Angie's List discount coupon to give to the plumber. Mac and Doc were here when they said they would be, and were VERY courteous. They let me know what they were doing as their work progressed. I had a new HWH installed within a few hours of my initial call to the office. I had a question the next day, called the office, and Mac returned my call to discuss my question and provide an answer. Very pleased with the way it was all handled the day of the installation."

"Our tech Butch arrived with a very happy presence putting me at ease front the start, my coworkers gave me all their bad experiences about AC problems with techs so I was so scared. Butch evaluated the situation and gave me all my options with the prices that my warranty covered and didn't cover. He made me feel at ease as he proceeded to fix our leak and put freon in our unit, explaining the whole while what he was doing, again putting me at ease. Homeowners need more techs like Butch! He also suggested the yearly maintenance on our unit to keep us aware of any future problems or issues. I hope American Home Shield keeps this company on their list of companies because if or when I need another service request, I want Butch. Dawnn B. Ocean View, VA"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Hope Mills, NC

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
