On one of the days that my landscaper was digging away, John who was heading to do a job in my gated subdivision, stopped and handed him a business card. In turn my landscaper handed the card to me. After checking him out on Angie's List, I called John the following day and he came by to give me a quote a day later. As I customarily do with all subs including large companies like ADT security, I did not accept his offered price and negotiated with him until I felt the number made sense to me. Up to that point my attitude was to each his own. As he has full right to try to get the best price, so do I. In response to the one unhappy customer who reviewed John, I cannot hold the subcontractor responsible if I am negligent in my negotiation. I too was in a hurry as my community association is very strict and I needed to clear out the huge mound of dirt laying next to the side of my house quickly. John and his worker piled away at the load for most of the day and when I came back from work they were finishing up. I can't remember the last time someone delivered on a job they did for me to the point that I did not have a remark or touch up that needed attention. When I looked at the area that they had cleared up, not only did I see no trace of the pile that was there, the ground was level and even as if they had brushed it with a broom. I had the check already made out and in my pocket as I was expecting some last minute pushing and pulling to try to get a few more dollars. None of that happened. He took the check, verified that it was written out correctly and shook my hand. 
As far as I am concerned, as the customer, I am to be graded on trying to get the best price and terms and from that point on it is the sub who is graded on delivering within the parameters of that price and those terms. A Best Price Hauling did so exceptionally.
