"Overall,, it went well. Delivery was set up when we ordered, and it went as scheduled. The Woodfront team was punctual, thorough and skilled. Cabinets now look very nice, and function much better. Some problems with contract details: 5 large pull outs were in the contract, but not ordered. Installers re-measured, and were installed in about 2 weeks. Granite for new cabinets took 3 deliveries, and coordination by me. The contract specified a 4 " backsplash, but it wasn't ordered, so they had to remeasure, and return 2 more times to get that installed. Team installed a pivoting corner pullout - they had never installed it before, so I was a little worried about it, but it works great. One thing I wish could have been worked out: the contract included them re-installing an over the range microwave. However, when we took it down, we discovered it couldn't be re-used. We had also ordered new runners for 2 bathroom drawers - initially for my husband to install later. Since they didn't have to spend time to re-install the microwave, I asked if they could install the bathroom runners. I was told it would be a $50 installation fee. Didn't have them do it. Seemed like a simple swap to me, oh well.
"

"We had old, carpeted stairs removed, along with iron railings. A new, custom cabinet with glass on both sides replaced 10' of rail. The stairs were completely removed and rebuilt. A fireplace mantle was also made to match. Great attention was paid to detail. Everything I asked for was incorporated into the design.

Great pains were taken to ensure as little disruption to our home and routine as possible. There was minimal mess, and cleanup was excellent."

"Excellent job. Worked closely with us to detail what we wanted, offered good advice on design/materials and came up with final design based on our conversations. The quality of work was excellent, and very professional. There was a bit of delay because cabinets were delayed, but otherwise progress was as expected. The final bathrooms are gorgeous, and the linen cabinets transformed the second floor."

"We first approached Chris White, of Creative Cabinets, in August, stopping by the Danville showroom
without an appointment to talk and look around. We then had him come in and give us a rough estimate
along with several other companies. From the very beginning, our calls
were immediately answered or returned ASAP. The company
respected our time, showed up for their appointments and got their bid
in very quickly. They were the only company to do so - no small part of our final decision to hire them!
We went back in September or early October
with more questions for Chris. He always made time for us and patiently
answered every question. The computer imaging that accompanied the bid
was very helpful and when we talked that second time, Chris amended the
image for us. Chris took detailed notes every time we spoke,
asking specific questions to make sure he had every detail
right. This became very important later as he intervened to ensure that
the counter tops were exact in every way. He phoned me when he spotted
a discrepancy between the countertop order and his notes. His notes
were correct and I was so glad that he had double-checked everything
before the order went in!
When we placed our order, Chris
again sat down and spent a long time with us going over every detail.
At times, he advised us against something we wanted and told us the
problems that he had had with that particular component from his own
experience - very helpful. We always appreciated his advice. At the
same time, we had a very particular look that we wanted, something that
Chris had never done before. But he was eager to help us achieve it and
directed us through every step, working through all the questions and
order forms to get what we wanted. He kept us informed of the schedule and checked in with us while we waited for the cabinets to come in.
Three weeks after the order, Dave and Junior showed up for the demolition. That was quite a job since there was a partial wall to tear out. It wasn't a load bearing wall but some ceiling beams still needed a little reinforcement once the wall was out, which they were well able to handle. The tear out was a one day job. Over the weekend following, we put a new floor in ourselves, then they were back on Monday to begin creating our new kitchen. We also repaired the ceiling where the wall had been - this was not one of things we had Creative do.
The men were always professional, skilled and friendly. It was a pleasure to have them in our home. They kept us well-informed of their schedule and always showed up when they were supposed to. Our construction fell around Thanksgiving which drew it out a bit longer than the average job. It took about 3 weeks to complete everything. After the cabinets were installed, Dave, who was obviously a craftsman, custom made our island, the trim and "skins" for our appliances. He also customized the wall oven cabinet to fit our microwave.
We had one major problem during construction (but only one!). The countertop company that Creative Cabinets subcontracted did a terrible job with the counter installation and there were chips, a gouge and a large crack in the counters/back splash. Additionally, the island back splash was not squared and the seams all over were goopy and sloppy. It was a mess. We called Chris that night and he was at our house the next morning. He too was unhappy with the work and had the company return right away to redo it all. We are pleased with the final job they did and pleased with how Creative handled our complaint and insisted their subcontractor do it right.
The only shortcoming Creative may have is that they did not seem to have a kitchen design specialist there - someone who could go beyond simple cabinet replacement and work with you to determine the best utilization of every square inch, though to be fair, we never asked for one. If you think you need help with the design aspect, ask them about it in advance, in case you need to get that elsewhere. I would not hesitate to say that that is not a big deal and definitely not a reason to avoid Creative . There is a lot of help online and elsewhere for that. In fact, I did utilize Kraftmaid's website and emailed a question to their online designer, who replied within two days. (I also spent weeks online researching and reading books.)
Our new kitchen is beautiful! It is all we hoped it would be. Our old kitchen was too small for us all and frankly too ugly to hang out in. But as soon as the new one was finished, the family began congregating in there, just as we had hoped.
Creative Cabinets was honest, skillful and talented, professional, and very competitively priced. They kept us informed every step of the way and were a pleasure to work with. We cannot recommend them more highly.

"

"Once the glitches were resolved, everything went great! Second Street Painting was at the house on the appointed day and time. They worked quickly and efficiently, and had the job done in just two days. I would definitely use them again, and recommend them to anyone that asks about them."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Indianola, IL

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
