I called Brian Westman at Canterbury Chimney Sweeps to get his take on the issue. Brian came out and suggested a simple and direct repair which made complete sense, and was not over the top regarding the cost. Brian's estimate was well within the realm of fairness, honesty and affordability. Brian completed the repairs and the water intrusion issue was brought to an end. I plan on having Brian come and inspect the chimney every couple of years to make sure it is in top condition. The copper flashing was pulling away from around my chimney and looked like it was in need of repair or replacement. I had previously worked with another well reviewed roofing company on Angie's List that missed my scheduled appointment to examine my chimney flashing. So I was very pleased when Andrew from Gunner showed up exactly when promised, and I was quite fascinated with his use of a drone to take precise aerial photographs of the work to be performed from all angles - a rather tech savvy approach. "At first, there was confusion on my part about the contract - we have one strange area that I knew they weren't going to replace but I didn't understand from the paperwork where the transition would be. John, the owner of Trinity came through and made sure I understood everything and was comfortable before they started. I also felt they could have protected my gardens a little better with plywood or something but they look fine a month later. They were VERY careful with our copper porch roof and our adjacent flat garage roof that has a rubber membrane - one single nail would have been bad news. Allstate arranged for all the permits and inspections required for the project, so everything was ready when the work began, and all the appropriate inspections were performed as needed. The project took just over 1.5 days to complete. The roofing crew was very careful to do a good job - they were very hard-working, and made sure to thoroughly clean up the site when they were finished. GAF sent experts to train the crew in working to integrate the solar panels into the roof, since this is something relatively new here. We were very impressed with the professionalism of everyone involved in the project, and the care taken to giving us the best possible result (they even made sure we arranged to have our LeafFilter system removed before they came so it wouldn't be damaged by the roof tear-off).
