"Big Chief sells flooring materials of various kinds - carpet, ceramic, hardwood, laminate, vinyl tiles or sheet goods. They are a multi generation family operation, and know their products very well. They can vouch for all their products, so we feel confident that we are purchasing good materials, having used them for new carpet and vinyl previously in my husband's office. We described what we needed for the house...a nearly seamless vinyl that can stand up to four large dogs' toenails, and be easy to clean when they mess.  They guided us to the right product, which happened to be on clearance. Their prices are more than reasonable; the material was the least part of the expense! They recommended an installer for us; can't remember the name but the team was amazing! They moved ALL of the furniture for us in our 30' x 25' living/dining/kitchen room, and installed the subfloor the first day. Next day, they returned and glued down the vinyl -- they put the seam in the right spot, where it will get the least amount of wear and tear. The quarter round they installed had been stained to match the original!  The workers didn't smoke in the house, worked conscientiously -- we trusted that they would not steal, as we could not be there with them. They even got the furniture back where it was! And some of the pieces were seriously heavy! The quality of Big Chief's materials and the friendly honest advice on selecting flooring makes it the best experience you can have. <br />"

"After wind blew off a portion of our roof, Advanced responded within an hour to tarp and secure the roof from further damage. This lasted well into the evening on a Friday, and not so much as a complaint from the response crews working on a steep and high roof on this windy night. <br /> Following the tarping of the roof, they handled each and every detail with my insurance adjuster, assisting us with a full and reasonable settlement for the repairs needed. Once they removed the damaged ceiling in our upstairs play room, mold was discovered and a remediation of this was <br /> performed complete with testing. <br /> <br /> This was important to us, because we have heard that this can be tricky when selling a home to disclose the problems and how they were taken care of. A nice insurance policy to say that the mold was taken care of the right way. Repairs started and were complete almost overnight. The crews there were very respectful to our home, and accommodating to our needs. The project manager said at the start of the job that their goal in all of this was to all of this was to make it easy to have a disaster, and I feel that that is exactly what they did. <br /> <br /> Thanks Mike, Darik, Chris, PJ, Pete and the rest of the crews. You guys are great."

"Very professional company! Jeff gave us suggestions for painting our old home which was going to be put up for sale. They removed old wallpaper and repaired walls. I was happy with Jeff's suggestions to refresh the home we were selling and the crew did a great job! I was never worried about leaving them in our home alone. They also painted the home we purchased and Mike and Frank were friendly and again, I totally trusted them both in our home. Got the job done early since we were leaving for a vacation. The house was cleaned up perfectly in the end!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Jamestown, NY

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
