"Vargas Tree Services replaced 30 trees, shrubs, and plants on my property, repaired the irrigation system, and installed spotlights. They arrived on time, worked hard all day, and did an absolutely beautiful job. At the same time, Alex Vargas made suggestions to improve the project, including telling me that I did NOT need some planned items (recommended by other contractors). Their prices were reasonable and affordable and I was completely satisfied."

"Eric and his brother came by our property to give us an estimate on a paver driveway and we told them that we had six other people coming over for estimates and they said that’s great. Just let us know which way you’d like to go and that was it for the time so then we listened to the other estimates that other companies gave us and I called Eric back and told him to come by so we can discuss it further and I let him know that some other places were cheaper and some other places were more expensive but I just felt more comfortable with Eric and his brother and their knowledge of the projects. We set up a time to do the work which at this time I had added two more sections of the property to have work done and they showed up on the day that they said they would and the people that installed the pavers knew what they were doing and worked or tails off and they did a fantastic job and everything was leveled out perfect and the Yard looks great. I would recommend Rock and Block highly."

"Rudolph arrived on time and was prepared to work the full day if needed to complete our projects. He has integrity! We had a laundry list of items to be repaired, and he let us know for several items on the list that we should hire another provider to complete the work. Some things he said he could do, but wouldn't do it as well as another professional. He even went so far as to provide us recommendations for who to call for a couple things (custom door weather stripping & ceiling fan repairs). We will be hiring him again later this year to repair and paint our fence/gates as well as install casters on a cabinet. The only reason I gave him a 'B' for quality was because one of our chair legs was repaired with a gap where there shouldn't be a gap, so the attention to detail on this repair faded. The quality of that work was not on par with everything else. He has promised to deliver puddy when in the area next since re-doing the repair may damage the chairs thanks to the wood glue. The wood glue overflow seemed excessive to my husband, but I believe that is normal and we were able to remove it once dry. The other 'B' for professionalism was regarding cleanup - which is one of my pet peeves with contractors. The keys to my back fence gate (which includes a house key) were left in the gate unattended during the day, and not returned at the end of the day. There were extra pieces of the chicken wire which we had to throw away. And the old chicken wire was thrown away in our recycling bin instead of trash bin."

"I am writing to commend the exceptional service provided by Peter and his son during the recent installation of my blinds and roller shades. They were the most professional installation team I have ever experienced. The installation was executed with perfection. Every item was symmetrically placed and installed exactly according to my specifications. My gratitude goes out to them for their high-quality work."

"After getting estimates from 3 separate companies, Sand S's overall estimate was best. After paying a $3800 deposit, work began almost immediately. Black slate tiles were removed and the grill pieces were ordered. I supplied granite tiles at my own expense because I could get a better deal. After 1-2 weeks, the granite was installed. After the initial demo and granite installation, work slowed considerably while the grill pieces were shipped. It took about 3 weeks for all of the pieces to arrive because one of them was the incorrect size. Additionally, the stainless steel cabinet's actual price was well above the initial quote so I elected to just install a door instead. The electrician showed and finished his work in 2 days. Afterwards the grill/burner/sink were installed.
Positives: Sean (owner? foreman?) is very straight forward. His estimate was close to the final cost (5200 vs. 5665)--the added expense being related to the amount of custom work required on the stainless steel doors. All of the workers were professional and courteous. They cleaned up after their work was complete, and if they had to leave tools over night they kept things reasonably clutter free.
Negatives: Multiple bills were sent which had mistakes inflating the price. I caught them each time and brought it up to Sean, who would adjust accordingly. They seemed like honest mistakes, but I had to constantly ask about actual prices vs. what was quoted to make sure there were no more errors. Also, after the granite tiles were installed there were some spots where the sealant began cracking immediately. When I asked to have it fixed, there was some reluctance to do it (due to cost to the contractor) but ultimately they did.
Overall Sand S, their workers, and the subcontractors did a decent job. From start to finish the project took a little over a month + 1 week. The biggest delay was waiting for the grill to arrive. Any delays outside of that were relatively short and mostly related to trying to coordinate the timing of different phases of the project (ie requiring the electrician finish his work before the grill could be installed). The only reason I wouldn't use Sand S again is because I don't have anything left to do that they specialize in.

"Prompt return of my phone calls.  Quick and easy estimate.  Professional service.  Great drip system and timer installed.  Fully cleaned yard and trimmed some  plants.  Blew and cleaned whole yard when done.  Would highly recommend them to anyone.
Price was very good for such a large job."

"We were not on site when the tree was removed but all debris had been removed when we arrived.  The next door neighbor stated that the crew had been very careful to keep anything from falling in her yard.

FAQs for sod installation projects in Jean, NV

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
