"The person performing the service had to make several trips because one of the "new" parts turned out to be faulty. I found both Complete Protection and their local repair contractor to be both very responsive and totally professional at every stage of the repair process."

"Scott and his crew arrived on time, did the demo work quickly and cleaned up the bathrooms to prepare for the arrival of the granite crew.  Upon the arrival of the granite installation crew, they figured out how to get the granite up the stairs, around corners and into the baths for installation.  Once the plan was made they quickly got the granite in place, finished the backsplashes and cleaned up.  A few days later the drywall was repaired, the final caulking completed and the job was done.   <br /> <br /> Scott and his crew did a great job to get in and out clean up the work areas and the countertops and baths look great. <br /> <br /> I would highly recommend Miller Building Co."

"Initially, we were having some trouble with our humidifier that our previous furnace company was not able to repair. I delegated the task of selecting another company to my wife. After some research, she made the decision to try Kotz. We have been with them for several years now, and we are generally happy with their performance. We also have been using Brinkers, which is a plumbing company also under the same ownership. During this time, Kotz has performed furnace maintenance, as well as installation of a new furnace, a humidifier, and an air conditioner unit. I am very impressed with the general knowledge level of their technicians. Their tool kits are well-thought out, and in asking questions about some of their tools, I've ended up purchasing some of them for my own home tool kit. Their routine maintenance is excellent and very thorough compared to the companies we previously used who were "blow and go." <br /> My wife and I do plan on staying with both Kotz and Brinkers, but I would like to explain the reason why I have marked them down to a B instead of an A. The one thing that I do not like about this company is that they are always trying to work some angle on me that kind of rubs me the wrong way. When we first tried Kotz, I wasn't sure that I wanted to have a long-term relationship with them by being under contract. I just wanted to pay them a fair price to deal with our humidifier and then decide if we would like to use them more in the future. Unfortunately, you do not get discounted rates with Kotz unless you are under contract with them, so it effectively twists your arm to enter into a maintenance agreement with them. They are aggressive business people, and if they sense that your equipment is nearing the end of its usable life then there's even more incentive to have you under contract so that their foot is already in the door when it comes time for replacement. They walk a fine line with me. They are definitely not shysters and they are not dishonest, but they are a little too aggressive for my tastes. Their service technicians have been excellent, and for that reason we have stayed with them. <br /> In one instance, they did some work on our air ducts to try to make for better airflow in certain areas of our house. An unfortunate side effect of the work was to create white noise in one room under certain conditions. A technician came out and concluded that some further work would need to be done to remedy the white noise situation. He said that someone would not be out right away, but they would get back with us. A minute later he repeated the same thing. I thought to myself, "OK, let's see how long it will be then." A month went by and I did not hear from them. When my wife brought up the issue again, I said that I was testing Kotz to see how long it would take them given what they had said. My wife wanted to end my experiment and get the work finished, and so I called Kotz back up. They set up an appointment to finish their work. I cannot give them full marks in this area, although most of their actions have been very satisfactory and prompt. <br /> After every visit, they are always twisting my arm to write a review for them on other sites. It is my understanding that their workers get paid an extra $10 if the customer will write a review. I'm turned off by this policy because I'm not getting a discount to function as a publicity arm for their company (and I have a limited amount of public relations experience on my resume). Unfortunately, there are some talented and sincere employees who are fully deserving of their pay, so today I relented and wrote the review on the other site. This review on Angie's List constitutes my way of balancing the account to state that I do not appreciate having to write these reviews in order for their workers to get the full amount of pay that they deserve. <br /> It is unfortunate that I have had to focus on the negative aspects of this company in order to justify marking them down from an A to a B. In general, this is an excellent company that does high quality work--so keep that in mind! I plan on continuing to do business with both them, as well as Brinkers in the future. The new equipment that they have installed has turned out well for us so far. In conclusion, this is a worthy company that is deserving of your attention. <br /> <br />"

"The Crofts were quick to respond to my flooding problem. They diagnosed the issue, replaced the sump pump and helped with other minor plumbing repairs. They were EXTREMELY helpful and went out of their way chase down parts etc... without charging me an arm and a leg (not like what I've experienced with other plumbers). I'll use them on any plumbing needs I have in the future... guaranteed."

FAQs for generator repair projects in Johannesburg, MI

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
