"I have used this company before and posted a well deserved "A" review of that experience. Had them back this year to remove another large tree and the experience was not quite as stellar. The care given to the surrounding landscape was lacking this time and there was a surprising amount of damage uncovered when I went to inspect closely after they left. I had told the 2 guys who arrived early in the morning where to stack the big chunks of trunk wood, which was behind the tree on a flat spaces of dirt, the same spot they dumped it all last year. Due to problems with the truck, the rest of the crew didn't arrive until 4 hours later. No body's fault on the late start, but I think in their anxiousness to get going, communication from crew 1 didn't get passed onto the climber/chain saw guy. I got my first red flag when I looked out the window and he was halfway done with the big trunk. As he cut the 12-14" sections, he did a big "heave ho" of the chunk forward on the downward side the big hill in front of him (instead of the other way where the ground was flat). I was very surprised to see all these massive trunk rounds fallen and piled on top of our pathway with paver steps. Later I found two massive rounds had rolled for distance all the way down to the bottom of the hill taking out a landscape light, some rocks our retaining wall, and then broke off paver bricks on 4 steps of a full flight of hardscape stairs at the bottom. This is about 75+ feet away from the tree being removed uphill. Unacceptable."

"The project went very well from beginning to end.  Brian came out to inspect my 3 birch trees.  He  was knowledgeable to our concerns regarding the two old birch trees in the back yard and their safety to property and life due to rotting and splits.  Both were close to homes and everyone's power lines.  
After scheduling the removal of only one tree, and pruning the other two, we had some concerns regarding the other one in the back yard.  I emailed Brian who was very quick to respond and said they would look at the tree again when they came out.  He left me a very detailed email in response to mine, which was very much appreciated.  I was extremely impressed with his great communication all the way through the process, responding to my many questions and concerns promptly.
Brian and his team of two other men arrived on the scheduled date and right on time.  I really liked that Brian was on the job site the entire time.  He assessed the other tree we were concerned about.  
Even though the original plan was to only remove one and prune the other two, it was very much appreciated that Brian and his team could do the extra work at a last minute decision and remove the other as well, since it also showed signs of instability and rot.
They were highly professional in every aspect of the job and very nice gentlemen.  They consulted me several times during the job and worked around the many other trees, shrubs, power/phone/cable lines, and the fence we have in our backyard, not damaging any of them in the process of cutting down these trees.  They ground the stumps below the surface of the lawn, cut the wood into firewood pieces for us and did a superb job in cleaning up when they were done.   
They also pruned/thinned the tree in the front yard beautifully.  It hasn't looked that good in years. 
Everything was done the same day and to perfection. 
I would highly recommend Portland Tree Care and would hire them again for my tree needs.

certification. Paul is a busy guy so it took him a day to get back to me which I
think is very reasonable.  We scheduled
the appointment. He was very punctual. I explained that I had just purchased
the house so he explained how to winterize the system at the end of the season
and how to program the timer at no additional cost. During the inspection, he
found three sprinkler heads that needed to be replaced so he replaced those at
the same time. Total additional cost for the heads installed and adjusted?. $8.97.
