"The process started immediately. They came right away. They tested the surrounding areas for water and found reasonable amounts under the kitchen sink and little to no water in the basement. They set up a dehumidifier under the sink for one night, cut a hole in the bottom of the sink cabinet, and continued for two more nights. They then decreed that the sink area was good and wanted to proceed with plans that would cut a large hole in the basement to test for further water damage. We said no. Other than asking to sign an unexplained form that just highlighted the signature part and not the contents of the contract, there was no written explanation of plans, steps, and pricing. I felt like I was in a hospital where you were asked to take action in of emergency with no specific indication of cost. When I stopped the process to share concerns about cost, I was told it was too late for insurance to cover it, and that they had a 5-star rating. They gave me a verbal estimate of 1,500-5k."

"Terrific - huge relief! Wish now that I had not procrastinated getting an estimate. I simply had no time previously and now that I had 2 weeks' time off for the Christmas holiday season, decided I would undertake what I assumed would be the unpleasant task of researching companies, securing an estimate, and beginning to face what I was sure was a significant mold problem. I have a 58 year-old home (which we love and hope to remain in forever - as we moved here for the ranch layout and hardwoods - perfect for 2 family members in wheelchairs). Unfortunately, our beautiful but older home has old, corroding copper pipes in the walls - and pipe in the wall beneath kitchen sink had a few leaks that leaked over time into the wall. After plumbers cut open sheetrock to repair sections of leaking copper pipe (twice) ...as the home warranty plan we have is great and covers removal and replacement of corroded sections of copper pipe for a small co-pay (but only covers removal & replacement of a few inches of pipe around the corroded area rather than covering replacement of the entire 5 ft run of pipe) and we've had a couple sections of pipe in the wall under sink replaced. Each time a section of pipe was replaced, plumbers opened up more sheet rock in the area to expose the pipe - which also exposed mold on a 2 x 4 and insulation in that area. Plumbers had also quoted cost of replacing the entire run of pipe - just in case I ever decide to replace my lower kitchen cabinets, noting that would be a good time to get rid of the entire run of copper pipe. So - back to the mold issue I had avoided for so long, assuming it would be expensive. After getting a few names of mold remediation companies from Angie's List, I quickly read the reviews & noticed several reviews for Advanta Clean of Kansas City mentioned this was not a company looking to secure work if professional assistance was not truly needed and often simply provide a recommendation and advice on how the homeowner can take care of their smaller-than-anticipated work on their own and avoid costly repairs. Reading the reviews provided some relief, and I hoped to get a visit and free estimate from Kevin, as reviews of him were really good. What I actually experienced when Kevin visited our home can't easily be described. My worries and concerns were immediately alleviated. Kevin was highly professional, describing national guidelines recommendations, noting our issue was less substantial than we had thought, and provided 3 different approaches that could be taken - detailing each. The first approach (and one he recommended) was free - simply cleaning up the area ourselves with vinegar and allow it to dry well, along with using a dehumidifier in the house (as humidity was reading high). The second approach (if uncomfortable cleaning the small area of mold on our own) was in the $350 range plus cost for asbestos testing (necessary in a home of our age to ensure crews would be safe while completing repairs) with asbestos testing through an independent company of our choosing (though Kevin could provide info if needed) running ~$400 (this entire second approach was deemed an unnecessary but available option by Kevin), and the third approach was ~$1200 (which covered a significant amount of work...removing lower kitchen cabinets, all sheetrock & insulation behind them, cleaning up the area and using HEPA fans) which Kevin noted was an 'aggressive' but available approach - should we prefer that. I had feared hearing $5k to $6k - so had done nothing for far too long. I wish I had called earlier!! I now have a plan that costs me nothing for now - which I feel safe with (priceless). And, since I already intended to pull out & replace lower kitchen cabinets after saving up a bit (& also replace the 5 ft run of copper pipe in the wall that started all these issues) I now have a solid idea of what it will cost to do the level of agressive mold remediation that I prefer to do (pulling out/checking/replacing insulation near the area) - once I'm ready to be without a functioning kitchen for a bit. Meanwhile, I am very comfortable managing the small area of visible mold on my own. And, will definitely be calling Kevin at AdvantaClean whenever I get around to replacing my lower kitchen cabinets, to do the level of unnecessary but precautionary checking I'd prefer to do. "We had problems finding a company willing to do a small section of composite siding, and even fewer who were capable of fixing problems we knew would be underneath. We needed to repair a portion of the back of a 2-story house. SRS came promptly to give an estimate, and was happy to repair as much or as little as we wanted. We went with Hardie board for the majority of the repairs. We had to wait a while for the repairs to be done because they were busy and it kept raining, but that is understandable and Brian from SRS kept us informed of the ETA. Oscar was the crew leader, and he is great to work with - friendly and professional, and made sure to keep us informed of everything that was going on. The problems we expected to find under the siding were worse than we anticipated, which led to them needing to repair water damage to the framing. Oscar showed us the damage, and we gave approval for the additional work and materials. This additional amount was less than we expected for such important repairs. That extra work set them back, and the team rushed to get to a point where they could wrap everything up securely for the night because rain was in the forecast. The partly-resided house survived a half day of rain just fine. Their second workday was also slowed down by unexpected work, but they were here for 10 hours that day and finished up the project within the estimated two days. The crew was polite and helpful. They left the work area just as they found it. They even did some things that we didnt expect (painting areas outside of the scope of their repairs, additional trim work). The new siding and paint looks great! We will definitely go to them again when we do more siding.

"One thing Shawn arranges for is to have a lady come in and clean/dust everything after they are done with dry wall sanding and such. That was a nice bonus.  He also found a spectacular carpet cleaner guy to get out stains and wax tracked in on carpeting. Carpet still looks great!

Shawn has a helper named Mike, and Mike is a hard worker. Mike shows up on time, and works as long as he has to without complaining. Shawn does have sub contractors for dry wall and painting.  His painter (Melbin) does an awesome job, but some of the guys that help Melbin are rather sloppy, leaving paint in sinks and splatters on counters.  Shawn made sure it was all taken care of later on though.  Shawn's dry wall guy (Carlos) knows how to get the job done pretty well, but wasn't very conscientious about making sure surfaces were protected (like floors, carpets, etc) from the dry wall compound, and he dumped the waste down in the street sewer- a big "no-no."
  I agree with another reviewer that stated Shawn seems to have a lot of things suddenly "come up" and seems to have too many "irons in the fire." There were several times when Shawn didn't show up when he said he would. Sometimes we would be contacted as to why, other times not.  I think this is common among contractors, unfortunately. They seem to have a whole different concept of time.
