"Joe and I chatted in the wee hours before dawn about what was causing the horrid squealing and roaring racket in my crawl space. We have a well, and thought it was the well pump since the noise (and our water) stopped when I flipped a double breaker off. My husband did not want to investigate the issue himself, so Joe and his employee came out later the same day and went into the crawl space. We had an unknown sump pump that had charred contacts on the float switch and would not shut off. It was on the same breaker as the well pump. He said he would get back to me with an estimate. My husband used to be a plumber, and while replacing a well pump was not in his skill set, replacing the sump pump and switch certainly is, so he is replacing it as I type. The pump, 27 years old, still actually works, but the switch is literally fried. It will hopefully be good as new later today. When I asked Joe what I owed him for the trip, he did not charge us anything! I was shocked and very pleased. We are both retired seniors (which is why hubby didnâ t want to go into the crawl space in the first place), and Joeâ s timeliness, professionalism, and kindness were all very much appreciated. The estimate for replacing the sump pump and switch was $650. Parts have cost us about $125. It is nasty, uncomfortable, hard work, and if we had not been able to do it ourselves, the price would have been reasonable. Itâ s not like replacing one in a basement, thatâ s for sure!
