"When the roof was three years old, I called them and told them I had a corrosion problem. They sent somebody out, and said that it have been because I live on the water. I told them its fresh water, not salt water. We are 20 miles away from saltwater. So he said he would get back with me. And after many months and years, 3 years to be exact, Ive been trying to get them. The information I need off of the coil of metal. So I can get the manufacturers warranty. Karen at G and G told me, that they dont keep that number. So, I cant prove who made the metal and who I talked to about the warranty. Ive got $33,000 invested in this roof. And now, they tell me they sold the business and the new owner does not responsible for anything that had done. Jamie, the shop foreman told me that I did have a problem with the roof, and he tried to get me information. He never came through. So, Im left stuck. "

A professional slate inspection (costing between $130 and $360) can confirm whether repairs are sufficient or if a full roof replacement is the better option.

A slate roof can last anywhere from 60 to 150 years, depending on factors like installation quality, regular maintenance and repairs, and local weather conditions. Compared to materials like clay and concrete, which often last around 50 years, a well-maintained slate roof offers superior longevity, durability, and long-lasting aesthetic appeal.

Yes, you can use temporary patch solutions, such as roofing cement or patchwork, to provide immediate relief for minor leaks or underlayment issues observed from inside your home. However, these provisional fixes do not replace the need for a permanent, professional exterior repair, which is necessary to ensure the long-term integrity and weather resistance of your slate roof.
