"Overall a great experience working with Rock Solid Builders as they demo'd two old wooden decks and constructed a new TREX deck for my mom. Scheduling with RSB was a bit difficult as their work is heavily affected by Chicago's weather. If a homeowner is ready to have a deck built - I suggest start scheduling with RSB 8 to 10 months ahead of an expected completion date. The site team took a good 2 - 3 weeks to finish off the deck and there were several issues that occurred during the build. All of the issues were eventually resolved, but I am a firm believer in that they could have been avoided if the right choices were made before a task was started. As a homeowner - it's good to be engaged and involved and question things that don't look right. Do not expect others (site team, village inspectors, etc.) to catch mistakes or question installations. I appreciate the time RSB took in building my mom's deck and she's happy and thrilled over the new deck. I do recommend RSB as a deck builder, but be prepared to double check their work for them - not a negative comment (just helps to have a second set of eyes to double check someone's work)."

"We received four quotes for the project ? Joel stood out because he showed up for the estimate on time and was very honest and upfront about certain issues and other considerations we needed to think about.  Joel provided an initial sketch and detailed estimate as promised on time.  One provider came to measure and evaluate our space, never even provided an estimate and went radio silent.  Another provider provided an estimate but was fairly unresponsive and seemed like they didn?t even want the business.  The other Chicago roof deck provider started the conversation always with ?tell me what your budget is? and to boot made us take the pictures and measurements ourselves. <br /> Joel was patient with us as we made decisions on design elements.  The process went very smoothly.  His carpenter Dan was a total pro, knowledgeable and experienced.  His team worked quickly and was able to make minor changes on the fly.  We had one miscommunication (partly our fault) about the size of the bench and planter boxes ? Dan was able to adjust as needed.  Joel coordinated with a roofer to make sure there were no issues with the underlying roofing.  He also had an electrician install power and light fixtures on our deck.   My only complaint with the process was with the selection of fixtures and other customization options--since these guys can pretty much do anything, we often felt overwhelmed by all of the choices.  In some ways it would have been a less stressful process with less choices or selection of recommended choices.   Joel was easy to get in touch with both by email and phone.  In the end, Joel finished the project on-time, on budget, and produced a great product.  Our deck is truly beautiful and we got everything we wanted.  Highly recommended. <br />"

"I was a little nervous about ordering windows on the internet using measurements I'd taken myself, but I loved the design on the website so, initially I only ordered 2 windows to check the quality, my ability to measure accurately and the company's ability to build to my measurements. Jeff, the salesman I dealt with was attentive without being overwhelming and the first order was delivered in about 4 weeks. The windows were exactly what I was looking for and fitting them was a breeze. I followed up with another order for the remaining 13 windows in my porch and again, they arrived quickly, were of great quality, exactly to size and easy to fit. "Called to get an estimate for a new roof from Callen because of their high ratings on Angie's List.  Dan was the sales rep who came out to my house.  He was on time and professional.  However, right after introducing himself to me, he told me his estimate was going to be higher than any other estimate I received, even before looking at my roof.  He sure wasn't kidding.  The estimate he gave me was 40% higher than either of the other two estimates I received.  High ratings or not, in my opinion he clearly did not want my business."

"We were out of town while the work was done, and when we returned, we realized that the wrong light fixture had been installed in the foyer (we were also replacing a light over the dining room table; that one had been put up in the foyer instead of the one meant for the foyer). We called and promptly had workers out to fix the problem, which involved placing scaffolding so not an easy quick fix. We were very pleased with the quick response to correct a mistake. We were overall very pleased with the workmanship and helpfulness of all of the individuals that we worked with. <br />"
