"We had our 100 year old oak wood floors refinished which hadn't been done for 25 years or so. Very professional, clean, did an amazing job, on time, easy to work with. The workers had to come back a second time to put another coat of (sealer?) on top because we noticed it was scratching very easily, but after they did that, we haven't had a problem. They also came back a third time to replace all of our molding (cut and stained it) which they didn't do the first time (and unfortunately wasn't part of the bid), but we were ok with that. The price was reasonable."

After the flooring was installed, the crew cleaned up and didn't leave a mess on the floor. they are very friendly and nice. "I can’t recommend Royal Oak Flooring highly enough. My wife and I met Laurie at her shop on Ventura Blvd. (suggest you make an appointment to ensure finding her there) in order to figure out whether Royal Oak could accommodate what we were trying to do. Previously we’d talked with 2 big-box stores and 2 small flooring shops but they all seemed to be trying to sell us very basic (but cheaper) installations. We wanted a floor with a thin black strip about 5” in from the wall to serve as a border. We also wanted mitered 45-degree corners rather than butted. The Royal Oak store is not large, compared to, say, Floors & Decor, but it has an overwhelming variety of samples. And Laurie is the kind of person who will make a phone call on the spot to find out if what you want is possible. She gave us several 2”x2” samples to take home and emailed us quotes for the different flooring and installations we were considering. After a few days we settled on a floor with 5” wide maple planks and the black border. We appreciated Laurie’s willingness to listen to what we wanted rather than try to sell us what she’d already done 1000 times. We realized why Laurie had the confidence to consider alternatives to the basic installation after Rafael and Abel showed up. These guys were the craftsmen we were beginning to think existed only on some other continent, the craftsmen who’d have to be flown over to the U.S. and put up in a motel while they worked on our mitered corners and our black border 5” from the wall. My wife and I are both retired engineers, so (1) we’re detail-oriented, and (2) we got a lot of time on our hands. I can be a pain in the butt, for sure, but Rafael and Abel never shied away from questions. And they asked them too. At one point I asked Rafael if there was a saying in Spanish equivalent to “The Devil is in the details.” Smiling, he assured me there was. Quite honestly, it got so that just seeing these guys in the morning was reassuring. They cleaned up everyday before leaving, made Herculean attempts to keep dust from escaping, and in general tried to reduce their impact on the normal house functioning as much as possible. We’re very happy with the new hardwood floor we got thanks to Royal Oak Flooring."

"Byron showed up on the agreed date / time to begin the work. He first helped me move the large furniture out of the room, and then he removed the existing carpeting and pad. After that, he prepared the concrete for the new flooring. Once the concrete was ready he installed the vapor barrier and then the insulation layer... and then the floor. Byron planned the layout so the wood patterns were optimal. To save me money, he was careful not to damage the existing molding. Lastly he installed the 1/4 round shoe base to cover any space between the existing molding and the floor. The final step was the install of the T-molding at the doorways. Byron's effort to provide an excellent outcome was very much appreciated. I am extremely happy with the outcome. He's a professional that takes pride in his work."

"I was referred to 800 Remodeling by Angie's List, and the owner, Amir, called me literally minutes after I received the referral. I described my situation to him and we scheduled a meeting at my home for the following day. He arrived promptly and immediately introduced himself with a picture ID and his state contractor's license. After inspecting the cracks that were of concern to me in a structural post supporting a major beam, he took some pictures and promised to get back to me with some recommendations. The next day, he called just as he had promised, told me that after talking with a structural specialist he did not believe the post needed to be replaced, but nevertheless gave me a rough-order-of-magnitude estimate on what a replacement would cost, should I decide to have that done. After some additional research, I concluded that the cracks are typical and not impairing the structural integrity of the post, and decided for added insurance simply to reinforce the post with some wrap-around steel bands. Since that is a small and simple job, Amir offered to refer me to someone else to do that job for me. He did not charge me for the consultation or the time he spent in discussions with other specialists. So although I ultimately didn't hire him for this job, I was impressed by his professionalism and shall definitely be contacting him again for some larger jobs I am planning in the future."

"<ul> <li>We had a tight schedule with a upcoming move in date. Mike Pillar came to our new home, and got back to us with an estimate. We decided to accept his bid, selected one of the samples that he provided, and went to his shop to sign the contract. At that time we were told that the wood that we had selected was not in stock, and it would take six weeks to get. He suggested an alternative, that was available immediately. We were disappointed but had a time crunch, took the new sample to our home, and determined that is as an acceptable replacement, (although visibly was inferior quality 25% thinner), than our original selection. The following week, we met with the installers, and proceeded to leave them to work, when the foreman came running after me, and wanted to show me that the wood that they were installing, did not match the sample, that was still in my house. It was clearly a different dye lot. I was very upset and got in touch with Mike Pillar. He insisted that it was the same, even though myself, my husband, and his employee clearly saw a difference. I was thrilled to find out that the original wood that we had selected suddenly was available, however, we were now being charged an extra $680 to get the floor that we were originally quoted on. The explanation that we were given for the price increase was that the stairs cost more with that wood, even though that flooring isn't even on the stairs. The stairs are stained wood. In the end the quality of the work, and the overall pricing was good. I didn't appreciate the bait and switch tactics, the unreasonable price increase, or the way that I was spoken to by the owner.</li> </ul> <br />"
