"We hired Granite & Marble for our kitchen re-do after visiting and getting quotes from two vendors including them. Lowest cost was not our primary criterion, but we wanted good quality work and a responsive vendor. They seemed to have top notch stone cutting technologies and everyone we dealt with was responsive. Ed Watson (I believe an owner) provided an initial estimate right away based upon my measurements, even before we visited their showroom. Once we visited the showroom Glenn helped my wife and myself, answering questions about the various quartz options, looking up approximate costs for third party stone providers. We visited twice in Kent and settled on a quartz that was available from manufacturer LG Haus who had a warehouse in an office park just across the 4 lane road from Granite and Marble (btw, LG Haus makes these in the U.S. though they are a Korean company. LG Haus was very accommodating in letting us see the various quartz stones in their warehouse). Once we selected the quartz & settled on a sink (we selected a 16 gauge stainless double available from Granite & Marble), and bought our new stovetop (from Lowes) and new faucet (chrome finish stainless all-in-one from Kohler), Glenn at G&M provided our final quote. As soon as we had our original stovetop removed (vendor service provided by Lowes), Steve at G&M finalized the contract (50% prepayment) and scheduled the template measurement date and installation date. The template specialist Eugene came to our home on the appointed date where he precisely measured all dimensions and entered them into an electronic template tool. He helpfully answered our questions and also asked our preferences about several details concerning the counter installation. The installation was scheduled about a week after the template measurement, but it ended up being delayed a couple business days because the machinist who was working on the slabs the prior afternoon noticed a scratch on one of the slabs and halted work until it could be replaced by the slab vendor. Our only complaint is that we were not notified of this on the original install date and we had to call them to find out what was going on. Apparently an internal communication failure at G&M caused this, but none-the-less we were glad that they took the initiative to replace the defective slab. The rescheduling was not a great inconvenience for us (because we are usually at home) but might be for someone who has to take time off work on installation day. On the installation date, installers Javier & Javier (father/son) arrived and professionally executed the removal of the old counters and the installation of the new ones, taking appropriate care to ensure that no collateral damage to the existing cabinets occurred. Both of them helpfully answered our questions and also asked us if we had any preferences about relevant installation details. All in all we are very happy about the way the project turned out"

"The Mill Creek Hardwoods crew was very thorough and professional. I requested that my floors be stained to match the color of other hardwood I had installed in the house, and they did an excellent job duplicating the color. If you're looking to have your floors refinished, Andrei and his crew are the guys to have them do it."

"I contacted Roger to get the floor of my bathroom repaired after having a new shower installed. I liked the sample of vinyl flooring so much I asked him to replace the kitchen floor, too. I liked the kitchen floor so much I asked him to replace the floors in the living room and hallway! The new floors are great—good looking, easy to keep clean, and they are the closest thing I’ve seen to wood other than the real thing. I swear they make my tiny house look bigger! Roger was great to work with: professional, prompt, and thorough. We walked through the house after the workmen left to be sure there were no mistakes. And of course, there were none! I highly recommend Floor Coverings International – Bellevue. They did a terrific job and I’d use their services again in a minute. Hollace Kennedy "

"I had a complete remodel done on my 1980 built Renton home. This included the kitchen, two baths, laundry room, the entire interior painted and all new carpet throughout the house. After interviews with five different contractors, it was pretty clear that Renovation Resolutions was the way to go. Matt, the owner, came to my home personally for the interview. He was courteous, knowledgeable and helpful with all my questions. What sealed the deal was the second interview with Matt at his Sumner showroom. The showroom is huge with a wide array of flooring selections, cabinets, countertops and paint. The biggest strength of this company, however, is the people. Amanda does not work for Matt, but was recommended by him to help me make all the decisions for all of the many items I would have to order. Amanda has her own home design business. She was extraordinarily helpful with suggestions for paint, backsplash, cabinets and doing all the ordering of the various materials such as faucets, doorknobs, etc. In addition to meeting with me on several occasions, she called or emailed at various times to check on progress and answer any questions. Cheryl is an outstanding person at Renovation Resolutions. Any home remodel requires an incredible amount of communication between the homeowner, the project manager and all the different contractors. Cheryl handled all the communication. She called, emailed, texted, or met with me in person on a daily basis in order to answer all my questions, get my input on one facet of the project or another and offer suggestions. Once a week she sent me an email outlining what would be done the following week. She even gave my neighbor some contacts for a fence-building project. My neighbor used one of those contacts and is delighted with the job that was done. All of the people Matt hired were professional. The crew took pride in their workmanship. Everyone always came to work on time and on several occasions worked beyond their eight-hour day to get an aspect of the project completed. They worked in a timely manner. From start to finish, the complete remodel took two and a half months. The crew had to work around my three pets and me as I lived in my house while they worked. The final cost came in over my original budget, but that was because of some additional changes I went with at their suggestion or that I found I wanted and they accommodated me. Examples would include installing a fan in one of the bathrooms that previously didn’t have one, replacing all of the plain doors with two panel doors, and replacing all the baseboards with new modern ones. In conclusion, I would not hesitate to hire Renovation Resolutions for any of your home projects. They work as a team with you to provide a product that you will enjoy and they do so with great communication and in a timely fashion."

"The owner was involved from start to finish and was very easy to work with. He was quick to respond and patient with my discussion of goals and installation process expectations. The pricing structure was modular for each phase of the installation process which allowed me to do some of the prep work and save some money. His prices were fair and easy to understand. Above all the owner was very honest and reliable. We were very happy with the results of his work and highly recommend him to anyone who needs wood flooring installed."

Ideas & Inspiration from Seattle Flooring & Carpet Contractors

Seattle Wood Flooring

The high voltage of the Seattle vibe is a perfect fit for wood flooring. A triple tall Americano and a copy of Fight Club just doesn't have the same feel on a carpet or a linoleum floor. It may not work for every room or area of your home, but many homes wouldn't be complete without any wood flooring to speak of. On the other hand, wood flooring is far from a no-brainer decision. You'll need some careful planning to create a beautiful, long-lasting floor.

Maintaining Hardwood Flooring
As your contractor will be able to advise you in detail, you will need to watch moisture levels in and around your home to protect your hardwood flooring. High moisture levels can increase the contraction and expansion levels of your hardwood flooring causing cupping and premature warping. Much of this hazard can be eliminated by spending a little extra on installation materials, such as a layer of plastic under the subflooring, particularly if it abuts a crawlspace. Installing a fan, dehumidifier, and generally increasing the ventilation in your home can also do wonders for prolonging the life of your hardwood flooring.

It's notoriously difficult to estimate or plan for the cost of a wood floor installation until you begin to solicit bids from contractors, but we can give you some basic guidelines, as well as solid advice for minimizing your project costs. The average cost of a Seattle wood flooring installation is about $5,000, although we've also had Seattle projects range as low as $900 or as high as $11,000. Around the country, we've had projects exceed the $20,000 mark.

Even if you knew the size of your flooring installation and the type of wood you want, it would be still impossible to say how much your project will cost without talking to contractors. Different companies have varying labor costs and connections to and expertise with various wood flooring manufacturers. Don't fall for the trap of assuming your local chain store is the best place to buy your flooring supplies. In fact, it almost never is.

This is what we've heard from Seattle homeowners who have recently taken on a wood flooring installation through HomeAdvisor:

"There was a $2,000 difference between the high and low bid. My advice: Get several bids."

"Get your wood flooring through the contractor. We had a problem with the flooring that we bought from Lowe's. The contractor was able to get the same wood for a lower cost in one day."

Seattle Wooden Flooring
If there's no reasonable way to guard against moisture, or if you consistently tend to track in dirt and mud from the outside, you probably want to consider an alternative to solid hardwood. Plus, for some areas in your home, such as bathrooms and sub-grade living spaces, solid wood flooring is simply inadvisable. Engineered wooden flooring in Seattle is common, as layers of wood composite material will increase the ability of your floor to safely expand and contract with varying moisture and temperature levels. Laminate flooring is another great alternative and tends to be slightly less expensive than true wood flooring.
