"I've used Domicile Consulting for several homes, after initially finding the company on Angie's List. Dan Cullen is exceptionally knowledgeable, objective and insightful. Prices are reasonable and well worth the investment. Dan takes copious pictures and compiles them in a handy report with recommendations. Highly recommended."

"We had the pleasure of working with Michael Gennett from MJG Home Inspections, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. Michael is incredibly thorough—there wasn’t a single question he didn’t have a clear, informed answer to. He encouraged us to ask as many questions as we wanted during the inspection and made sure we fully understood what we were seeing, which gave us a ton of confidence going into the purchase. He’s clearly an expert in older Chicago homes, which often come with their own unique quirks and issues. Michael spotted things we never would have noticed and gave thoughtful, practical advice on each item. Even after the inspection, he remained responsive and available for follow-up questions—something we really appreciated. His inspection report was fantastic: incredibly detailed, well-organized, and easy to follow. We shared it with several contractors for estimates, and every single one commented on how thorough and professional it was. If you're looking for a reliable, meticulous inspector—especially for older homes in the Chicago area—look no further than MJG Home Inspections. Michael is truly top-tier."

"Star Tuckpointing did superb work on our recent masonry project. The lintels above the windows in the octagon at the front of our 80+ year old bungalow were rusted and deteriorating, causing the bricks to shift and, ultimately, leading to water leakage into the living room ceilings. Star Tuckpointing was the only vendor I spoke with who, right off the bat, offered to clean and reuse the original brick. That's huge for repairs to an older building as there is no way to match those classic bricks. That endeared these guys to me right away. But it was the experience of having the work done that tells me I made the right choice. Star Tuckpointing is a family run and operated business - the crew consisted of father and sons, uncles and cousins, and the attention to detail and pride in their work exhibited is notable. The reconstruction is seamless. They installed new windows and rebuilt the wall, the octagon parapet and decorative cap stones. The mortar is a darn near perfect match. The cleaned and reused bricks look great. They replaced a poorly designed downspout with a new scupper box and replaced the roofing behind the parapet with new materials, work that looks better than it must've when the building was brand new. I'm confident that we'll have no more water issues. In addition to the parapet rebuild, the crew went around and spot tuckpointed all the various cracks, touched up the brick arches above window openings, etc. Everything looks great! We had originally intended to forego rebuilding the original stone retaining wall for the garden along the front of the house, after all, it's just a garden wall, nothing structural or that would cause any immediate problems, but after having the other work done, the cracked and leaning wall looked so bad compared to the beautiful new front of the building that we added it on. Now the home looks fantastic! The work was performed quickly and efficiently. The site was cleaned up after each and every day's work. It was a delight to have these guys on the job and if the need for other masonry work arises in the future, I know I have only one call to make. Thank you to Peter and Boycheck and the whole family for a good well done."

"I’ve had home inspections before but I have never been more impressed with the thoroughness, knowledge, and customer service of Dedric Moore from At Home Inspections, Inc. He was communicative, happy to answer all of my questions, and clearly explained the content and implications of his findings"

"Rubin and Brandon came out to install our system on 3/14. They were both on-time and professional throughout the installation. They worked quickly, were clean, did a great job explaining how it worked, and answered all of my questions. The system was competitively priced as well. I've worked with many contractors, and it's not common to get all of these from one company. My radon levels are close to 1/4 of what they were before within a week of the installation so I know it is working well."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in La Grange, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
