"Three Tree Roofing are professionals with an experienced crew: David, the estimator, who gave me detailed information regarding my choices, carpenters like John who installed new fascia prior to gutters being installed, the roofing crew foreman, Victor, who was meticulous in his crew's roofing work and the office staff who made sure any of my questions or concerns were promptly addressed. I now have a house I am proud to show off. Kudos to Three Tree Roofing."

"My experience working with North Star Construction was top-notch. Mica, my primary contact through the project, was great to work with. It was nice to get progress status updates and detailed photos from her via email almost daily. Communication was good. They were responsive, professional, and the work they did looks really sharp. Final cost turned out to be more than estimated due to some rot discovered during the job, but I would certainly recommend NSC to anyone needing a quality re-roofing."

"We have used them for several other department jobs over the past several years and have since recommended these guys to several of our friends. You will simply not find a better roofing company for your residential needs in the PNW! Rafael came to my house to give me an estimate. His price was the best for the job, and he gave a great presentation. They removed the old roof without damaging anything, then the next day installed the new roof in one day. I was impressed with Roger, the boss on the job. He is very knowledgable and answered all my questions. They guys on the job worked very well together. The work looks amazing. Their team is also very responsive to emails! Great, great customer service."

"From start to finish, Jessica and Jason were great to work with. They communicated timelines and helped set expectations about the work and costs. They helped us with our many revisions and delays as we worked through exactly what we wanted. When the time came to do the job, they were on-time each day and very professional in their approach. Jason talked us through each of the challenges our site presented during the actual build and worked with us to find ways to solve them. We recommend Bluegrass Construction and will call them again for future fence or deck needs."

"Marlon and his crew were very responsive and arrived on time. They went above and beyond what I had expected... and I had high expectations. We had our roof replaced all the way down to the decking. Their rates were comparable to other local companies... BUT if you look at the details and compare what EXACTLY MCS Roofing and Construction was installing to the other companies' product, MCS's products (and quality of materials) were far better than the others. I highly recommend and would HAPPILY rehire Marlon and his crew for future construction jobs as I could have have asked for anything more!"

"Agron and his team did am amazing job on our project. From initial engagement to job completion, I could not have been happier. Agron was quick to give me an estimate and very flexible to meet with me to discuss the job with my busy schedule. His team worked very hard to complete the job in 2 days (opposed to 3 days) and was very friendly to my wife and kids while they worked (since they were home during the days the job was done). I'd recommend Agron and his team to anyone looking for work on their roof. A very straight forward without high pressure sales tactics that I found from others."

"After contacting NW Natural Lighting, Dawn came to our house (on a weekend, which was nice) to do a consultation, explaining how solartubes work, helping us understand where and how they could have the most impact, and providing recommendations for where to install them and how many to install. Ours is a bit of an unusual case because we were installing the solartubes in bedrooms, but they explained that we could put dimmers in to close them at night. The installation had to be booked a month or two out because they're booked pretty far out, but the installers showed up on time and did a great job on the installation. I think our building is a little tricky to work with because the roof is pretty steep and the ceiling is lathe and plaster, but they got the solartubes in with only one extra hole in the ceiling (we pretty much end up with an extra hole in the wall or ceiling anytime anyone does work on our place). The additional light is great, and the fixtures blend in pretty well with the ceilings."

"I contacted a few solar installers to get estimates. Chose SolTerra for a few reasons. Mainly, I liked their idea to use Tigo Energy modules to deal with some minor shading issues. Most other installers didn't seem very familiar with them. Also, they do a bit more than residential solar, so seem likely to be around in the long term. They're involved in WA-state level solar advocacy, and their CEO has a neat vision about reconnecting cities to nature, e.g. via green roofs (search for "solterra ceo ted talk").
(About the Tigo optimizers: those are DC power optimizers, which are simple devices that are on the roof by each panel, and can optimize each panel's output so that a little shade doesn't kill the entire string. They should be reliable and last as long as the panels. Then the panels can connect to a Washington made string inverter to get the full benefits of WA state incentives.)
Was pretty excited to get solar panels, so went with SolTerra after evaluating a few installers, who were all pretty close on price. However it turns out I could've saved several thousand dollars if I had waited for one more bid (from a top rated Angie's list electrical contractor, no less). So definitely do your homework on pricing & don't rush into an agreement before you get all of the bids.
Regarding the job:
It took a few weeks between initial contract and starting the install. Things started off very well. The roofing crew was there for a few days and they were awesome. Super nice folks & I got to go up and see the work-in-progress.
The main electrical install for the solar was done the following week. It seemed like a pretty clean install. They found a nice way to route the DC cables along the outside of the house, in a way that is short and mostly out of view. Also a good spot for the inverter (outside, shaded location to keep it cool, easy to service). They were able to route the solar power to the electrical panel without needing to punch any holes inside the house.
I didn't really have any problems at this point, except the next day I noticed the Tigo online system was misconfigured (not showing one panel, some positioned incorrectly). I figured since SolTerra set things up, perhaps they could fix it, but I wasn't able to get any help after brining this up several times with different people. They made it sound like they'd raise the issue and get back to me, but never did, and also like Tigo support wasn't getting back to them. After waiting a few weeks I contacted Tigo Energy (the module manufacturer) directly and they were able to fix the problem immediately. Everything's good now, but it felt like SolTerra didn't have a system in place for following up with problems.
There was also some confusion on the paperwork. I got a lot of things to sign after the install that were supposed to come before the install. Not a big deal, but it felt a bit disorganized.
There were a few issues on the EV charger install. There wasn't a lot of communication about scheduling it, and it seemed to drag on for a while, which meant more days working from home for me and rescheduled meetings. At first it wasn't totally done and the city inspector had to ask for it to be fixed. Seemed like maybe they don't do EV charger work much.
Another odd thing: they said that the down payment was to pay for the solar panels. But that did not seem to be the case, as I got a notice from the electrical supplier that things had not been paid for, and they had a right to take a lien against my house. This was like a month later. I made sure that the supplier had been paid before I paid off SolTerra.
The good news is the work is overall seems to be very high quality. So I think this might just be growing pains, as they seemed really busy and with a bunch of new staff (many who were excellent and very helpful). In some sense results are what count, and everything's done now and working well. I think they're a good company overall & will get better over time.
The system numbers:
6.44kW, 23x280W Itek panels, made-in-WA
Solectria 6600 inverter, made-in-WA
Tigo: 23 optimizers, 1 gateway, 1 cloud connect

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Lake Stevens, WA

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
