"We loved working with Jim and Expeditor. This project was for a Church, and we had a limited budget but lots of enthusiastic volunteers. Jim worked very closely with us to coordinate what our volunteers could do so we could reduce our costs. Jim was VERY patient with us. The work he did was very good, both in quality of work and choice of materials such as cabinets and fixtures. We appreciate Jim's flexibility and would definitely use Expeditor again."

"Shane the the perfect man for our 5-month yurt camp buildout. We had a set of engineered plans, and I felt confident that Shane was following best practices to ensure the integrity of the structure. Further, there were numerous obstacles that came up during the construction process, and Shane was very good about brining these obstacles to my attention, and we worked together to find a solution in each case. I would highly recommend Shane's expertise for both engineered and design-build projects."

"The installers did a great job installing both the windows and doors. Very clean and professional installation. The only negative would be a miscommunication on window function. We initially looked at a Pella vinyl window that had a night latch which we liked. These were west and south facing windows so we wanted to go with something more durable and decided on Pella fiberglass windows. When we asked if the fiberglass model had all the same features, we were told by TVE yes. However, these particular windows apparently don't come with a night latch. The double hungs were also somewhat difficult to close both upper and lower windows. TVE called the Pella rep and asked them to set up a review with us to check function and to see if anything could be done to add a night latch. I very much appreciated TVE's proactive approach on this relatively minor issue."

"Rutland Construction delivered everything we asked for and did a fantastic job of installing our doors. It was quite a job to add doors to an existing room that was not designed for doors. Excellent workmanship!! We will always recommend Rutland Construction!"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Letha, ID

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
