"<p>We had some high winds/tornado that had shingles off of my roof laying all around in my front and back yard.  After a few days of rain I saw leaking in my garage and signs of leaking in the bedroom that's connected to the garage and in the same area where the leaking was in the garage.  I called Chris because he had done some work for me before and I was very please with him and the outcome of that job.  He came out the same day I called him and did a walk around the house.  He took pictures of the roof and showed me what damage I had and how much it was going to cost me.  Chris and his son Mike arrived a little before 9:00AM this morning, 12/7/15.  They were done by early afternoon about 2:00PM.  They did some extra things for me too.  I really appreciated that.  I had a hole in my roof that some critters had eaten in it and I wasn't even aware of that and my garage door was cracking in one of the corners.  He repaired all of that for me.  My roof looks brand new.  They also cleaned my gutter and downspouts and installed gutter guards.  I have some siding and paint work that needs to be done and Chris and Mike are definitely going to be the ones to handle that for me.  These guys are great.  They are reasonable and very dependable.  Excellent customer service.  I would recommend them to anyone anytime.  Thank you Chris and Mike.</p>"

"Paul was professional and responsive. He always made us aware of his project plan, which days he would be on the job, and what he was going to accomplish each day. He was also able to resolve some preexisting poor craftsmanship around a stone window header, and he filled some holes in the brick that had long ago contained some sort of attachments. He was conscientious about matching the new tuck pointing to existing work. We are very happy with the result and highly recommend Paul and his assistant! Price was comparable to another bid. Though, other bidders were reluctant to take on the job as completely as Paul, due to the very narrow spacing of our brick. Paul's solution was to grind out a wider gap for the mortar. Finally, Paul's clean up was great. There was a lot of dust from this job, and Paul was frequently vacuuming and cleaning up. He finished with a hose wash."

"Kobel Chimney just finished tuckpointing my chimney, and did a great job. I would use them again. Kobel is willing to do the difficult work that many other chimney contractors won’t take on. My chimney is tall, and difficult to reach. Kobel erected scaffolding that enabled them to tuckpoint the entire chimney, and seal the crown. In contrast, some other bidders proposed tuckpointing the easy to reach parts of the chimney – claiming that the difficult to reach parts didn’t need repair. (Eight years ago, a contractor repaired only the parts of the chimney that could be reached with a cherry-picker (lift bucket), and claimed that the back side of the chimney didn’t need tuckpointing. I wasn’t falling for that this time.) Regarding the fireplace flue, I had three “Level 2” chimney inspections, which involve inspecting the fireplace flue with a camera. The first bidder engaged in “fear marketing”,and told me that I needed a liner, because of a few small cracks in the flue. The other two inspectors said that my flue was OK. In light of the fact that 8 years ago I had the fireplace flue coated with Heat Shield sealant, and two inspectors said that the flue is safe, I declined the liner. (My boiler flue already has a metal liner.) Kobel’s price was reasonable. Other bidders quoted very high prices, and quoted work that I felt wasn’t needed (i.e., liner). And, other bidders omitted the difficult exterior work (e.g., tuckpointing the back side of the chimney). Everyone that I dealt with from Kobel was friendly and helpful. (Harvey is the father. Jeff, and his cousin Devin, did most of the work.) They did good quality work. And most important, they did the complete job – not just the easy parts. They are informal in terms of contracts and communications, which posed no problems for me. IMO they are “old school” in the best sense of the term. My advice: If your house is 90+ years old, and your chimney has never been tuckpointed, I suggest that you use a pair of binoculars to inspect the top courses of brick. You may see a lot of missing mortar, and places for water and critters to get in."
