"Grady did an awesome job! I've dealt with many shady contractors and Grady is nothing like them. He's honest, dependable, fair, and will be upfront with you. I never once felt like he was just trying to "get one over on me" because I'm not knowledgeable about these things. He is clear about telling you the why behind the cost of materials and labor. And he gets it done right the first time. In a world full of shady contractors, he's a breath of fresh air. And he's once of the nicest people you'll ever meet! "

"They built my hearth and framed my fire place. We used reclaimed wood that was very hard to work with. The end product was breath taking. The care and craftsmanship they put into this was outstanding."

"Jimmy and his team worked exceptionally hard to complete the large job of painting and refinishing our deck. There were a lot of unforeseen problems with the existing material, and Jimmy worked tirelessly to make sure the job was completed to the highest of standards. He takes pride in his finished product and it definitely showed. I would hire Jimmy again in the future for additional work of this kind or another."

"It went well. They were very professional through and through, had proper safety equipment, and presented a great price when everyone else was trying to take advantage of supply and demand after a storm. They did exactly what they said they would do and I thought they did a great tree removal/general clean-up job."

"Great. We have learned to communicate well. We walk through jobs before getting started. He is punctual and finishes on time. He completes what was promised. He addresses any issues promptly. He recently replaced my roof and i found out later that he drove by after the job was completed just to double check that there were no issues with the work. It had been raining hard and Travis knew I was out of town. He explained quality was important. That word of mouth can make our break his company's reputation. I really appreciated that kind of follow up. His work has included completion of shop interior: New bathroom, laundry room, loft, exterior doors, and entryway covers, all associated electrical and plumbing, On existing house: New roof, gutters, new siding, replacement of all windows, and new paint."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Lincoln City, OR

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
