"The owner, Matt, as well as his staff Noah, Josh, and the office manager Michelle were all a pleasure to work with. I would happily hire Black Moose Chimney again and plan to use them from here on our to sweep the chimney they created in my home.
I recently purchased a 200+ year old colonial farmhouse with a centrally located brick chimney that has seen a lot of use and abuse over the years. We wanted to switch from our expensive propane heating system to a wood burning stove, and we hired Matt to diagnose what needed to be done to use the existing historic chimney.
Matt figured out that this chimney had many years ago been lined with a now decaying 8" metal liner with mortar poured in around it. It had a number of thimbles going to the kitchen and living room, and the portion of the chimney above the roof line had decayed to the point that it was no longer salvageable. They showed us photos demonstrating the need for the various aspects of work.
After we accepted his quote, which we found to be reasonable for the scope of work, Matt came by and created the brick hearth. We're very pleased with the way it turned out. He demolished the chimney above the roof line and prepared the chimney for the 6" rigid stainless steel liner. They installed the 6" chimney liner and built up the new chimney and flashing. Josh performed a lot of the brick work, he took his time and was very meticulous in his craft. They finished the chimney, poured in insulation around the liner, and installed a nice bluestone cap. The chimney looks beautiful and appropriate for our historic home, we are very happy with the work.
They had to break out some of the inside brick to install the new thimble for the liner, and the brickwork Josh and Matt did looks wonderful. They used some original bricks (which we had extras of from an old chimney, thankfully) and even took the time to mix the special lime mortar that would match the mortar in our historic home. They sealed and covered up the old thimble into the kitchen.
They had to work around some weather, which stretched the project out longer than anticipated, but they were able to have the chimney system functioning so the wood stove, when delivered, could be immediately hooked up and used. With some of the unforeseen challenges they ran into with this particular chimney, I was concerned that the original quote would be exceeded. However, when it came time to settle up, they asked only for the original price I was quoted.
We have several children and Matt and his team were very careful, polite, and friendly when they came across the kids. They cleaned up after themselves and put on booties or put down protection to ensure our flooring wasn't damaged during all of the work. Noah especially was kind to the children and took the time to field my son's questions while working very hard to assist Matt and Josh with their tasks.
We've been using our wood stove and chimney for almost a month now and it's worked beautifully. My wife and I fully recommend Matt and Black Moose Chimney.
"

"I can't begin to say how pleased I am with Tim and his staff. When I first placed my order I explained that I'm new to the area and didn't have an electrician. No problem said Tim, I'll take care of it..and he did. Aaron & Silas showed up on time and meticulously cleaned the fireplace including the unburnt wood from the night before. They were careful not to make any mess placing drop cloths down and moving the TV so it wouldn't get damaged. The install was quick and they took the time to explain how to use the product (Quadra Fire Mt. Vernon Pellet Insert). It works incredibly..I have a 1000 sq. poorly insulated cottage and we hit 80 degrees inside while it was 17 degrees outside. But most important was when I got home from dinner and the flame was out ( I ran out of pellets) I could not get it started again. It was 8:30 pm on Friday night and I called the cell # on the business card...It was Tim's (the owner). He was so helpful and patient as he spent the next 24 minutes on the phone (after hours on a weekend) he walked me thru the start up process and got us up and running again. Tim and his staff at White Mountain Stove are the reason why shopping the local family owned business is always better than saving a buck or two at the big box store. Thanks again...you guys were great!
"

"The brick chimney on my 55-year-old house had missing and loose bricks, crumbling mortar, and severe staining. Also, when the house was reroofed five years ago, the roofers did not do a proper job of installing flashing against the chimney. I first contacted Dave Robinson mid-summer, and he came out to examine the project. Initially he thought he could get to it in late August but he then said it would be sometime in October. As it wasn't an emergency (I had, after all, been living with this for years), that was OK with me. Dave and his crew arrived in early October and, over two days, did a great job repairing the chimney, reinstalling the flashing properly (so that the top of the flashing was embedded in the mortar, and then sealed it all with a breathing sealer. Perhaps my only gripe was that communication was intermittent, especially by email, but he did respond and did the work he quoted for the agreed-upon price. I have attached before and after photos. I'm very happy with his work and plan to call on Dave again when I am ready to install a fireplace insert (as the interior of the chimney needs work.)"

"John did great job overall. He is a professional engineer (PE) and has other specialists who work for him.
He was professional and factual in his findings and was diplomatic with presenting them to the owner.
He took the time to answer all my questions and wrote a very detailed report.
Best of all, I found him myself and did not go thru a realtor, who has an interest in selling the home, and not in finding everything that could be wrong with a house.
Only aspect I was disappointed in was his analysis of the geothermal heat pump design we wanted to install. I am not familiar with those so I asked him to evaluate the design we were presented. The response was less than adequate...I wanted a critical analysis and basically received eyewash, though he subcontracted that portion out to another geothermal company.
"

"They were willing to come on an as-needed basis for wasps, but I was chagrined to hear that we couldn't hire JP Pest just once to take care of existing mice. They said that the only way they treated those was with a yearly contract that includes quarterly monitoring. They said there really was no other way because new mice would just replace the old quickly. However, the yearly contract would include not just rodents but also the bees and wasps, ants and spiders. In the end, after calling around, I agreed to the yearly contract, which was reasonably priced. JP Pest uses the least toxic and most humane methods they can. And bonus: the tick population seems to have declined measurably with the disappearance of the mouse colonies."

"4Ted was extremely helpful in evaluating our roof and discussing its construction and materials. He was familiar with the work of the builder who built our home and was very complimentary of the kind of work that this builder does. He showed us why he thought our roof had at least 5 good years left before a replacement might be needed and discussed what our best options might be at that time. I was very impressed with his professionalism and his thorough knowledge of the trade. I like working with people who take that kind of pride in the work that they do! The fact that he was honest with us in saying that we don't need to be concerned re-roofing right now means that he will definitely be my first call when that day comes.
"
