"JR Quality Construction did a wonderful job with deck footing repairs and siding repairs and painting for my home. They had the lower bid and finished on time. My house looks fantastic. I was required to do this by my insurance company, and JR made sure it was done on time and to their specs. I also hired JR for a project in Hardwick repairing an historic granite shed roof. In that case they were also fast and the lowest bid. So impressed with this crew!!"

"I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and Brad Green of Colonial Restorations. We have lived in our antique house for 16 years now, and like most old homes, some of its previous repairs were good, some not so good. Tom Green worked on this house for its previous owners, and his work was, by far, the best in the house. So, we continued to use Colonial - Tom, then Tom and Brad - as we learned the ropes about caring for an old house - our first house, old or new. Over the years, they have replaced sills and posts and beams, and rebuilt parts of our loose stone foundation. Most recently, they replaced the last original posts in our basement, (one of which was a tree trunk still with bark on it), including pouring new custom footings, in advance of our finally cementing the dirt floor. The work here is never easy - nothing is level, nothing is square - but the Greens' end result has always been beautiful - strong and made to last. Their prices are fair and without hidden costs....maybe not the lowest bid you might get, but you know it's a real bid that they will stand behind. They triage projects for us, giving us an idea of what other items will likely need attention in the next few years. We're not done with this house yet....we've never won the lottery, and there's always another repair..... and plan to use them again soon. I feel confident knowing that the next owners of this house, whoever they might be, will see the quality of the work and know that we cared enough to have the right people help us with the ongoing repair and maintenance of a 275+ year old house. I am a real person, a real customer, with no ties to the company, and was more than happy to write this review."

"Frank and Nick did an excellent job replacing a window, installing snow guards, and completed roof repairs to make the house weathertight for me. They showed up when they said, worked very efficiently and got everything done quickly. Pricing is very fair and quality workmanship. I have used F.B.I. a couple times now and know I will use them for future projects."

"Outstanding experience by Sentry Roofing! I hired them to replace my roof. They replaced my roof in 1 day on a 2000 sq. feet colonial home. T.J. was very helpful explaining the quote and answering all my questions before I decided to use them. They showed up early morning, set up everything they need for the job, stripped off my old roof, installed the new roof, cleaned up, and left. They completed the job fast (in an extremely hot day) and left my yard and driveway super clean. Itâ s like they never showed up! Amazing work. They used Owens Corning Asphalt Shingles. I was beyond satisfied for the work they did. Thank you to Dave Ayers (the supervisor) for explaining the whole process prior to starting job. He was, along with the crew, very professional, friendly, and efficient. I would hire them again and I strongly recommend them to anyone! The price was very reasonable."

FAQs for wood shake or composite roofing installation and replacement projects in Lochmere, NH

Cedar shakes and wood shingles might seem similar, but they have some important differences. Cedar shakes are hand-split, giving them a unique, textured appearance that adds rustic charm to your roof. They're great for homeowners who want a distinctive look. Wood shingles, conversely, are machine-made, providing a smooth, uniform appearance for a more modern look. Shakes tend to be more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved but offer exceptional beauty and resilience.

A well-maintained cedar shake roof can last up to 60 years. However, factors like severe weather and improper ventilation can reduce its lifespan. You should consider replacing your roof if you notice persistent leaks, visible water damage, curling or splitting shakes, moss growth, rot, or missing shakes. Regular inspections can help you determine when it's time for a replacement.

When hiring a roofing contractor for your cedar shake roof, asking the right questions is important. Make sure they are fully certified and have extensive experience with cedar installations. Verify that their team is licensed, bonded, and insured. Ask for details about the materials they use, such as the type of underlayment and fasteners, and how they ensure proper ventilation. Getting multiple written estimates can help you compare options and choose a contractor who offers quality workmanship at a fair price.
