"Quick response and extremely attentive to our needs. At first, Nathan was too busy to take the job, so he referred us to another business. He called back a few days later to see if I had any luck getting scheduled. I hadn't. He said a spot opened up so he was able to fit me in that same week! Did a nice job cleaning, filling cracks, and resealing our asphalt driveway. The only negative aspect was that some areas of the product didn't adhere very well and was wearing away a year later."

"Bruce and all of his people were outstanding to work with. Everyone was very courteous, friendly and hard working. Every question I asked about the installation was completely answered. Since my garage elevation is lower than the street, a trench drain was recommended to be installed in order to divert the water from the doors. This was not suggested by any other contractors for the job but this is the best way to handle the runoff water. They installed a quality trench drain along with a drainage pipe routed to a location that I selected. Along each step everyone paid close attention to detail and made sure things were done right including grading, backfill, compaction, asphalt placement, final compaction and seal coating. After each day the entire area was thoroughly cleaned of any debris. Bruce is a true craftsman of his trade and I would highly recommend his company to anyone. I am very pleased with my new driveway and have had numerous compliments."

"The job was flawless from start to finish.  Craig estimated the job himself, then came out to meet with our team to go over the timeline of the job and help us think about how to minimize the disruption to our residents and vendors.  He showed up early to start the job, then stuck to the timeline.  We couldn't be happier with the results. <br />"

"Looked great but after one year there are areas where vitually all coating is gone. These are not high use areas or anything like that. It's just like the rain and climate have taken away the coating. Maybe this is normal and I was not aware. Expected it to last longer. <br /> The service was fast and as promised so have nothing but good to say about the service. Just expected a longer life of product. <br />"

"Top to bottom great! My husband and I were both very impressed by John Jr (father/son operation) when he came to give us a quote. The quote was approximately the same as another highly rated contractor so we went with Rose City. When they came they were organized, efficient and as neat as possible. The lead on the job offered to do some lifting on a sunken portion of the adjacent concrete that had broken off. They built it up underneath so that the join with the paving would be more even and better looking. The end product looked great and we have been contacted by neighbors asking for contact information."

"I spent the summer of 2017 being stood-up time after time by another company, dealing with their answering service, and rarely talking to actual employees. When I did talk to employee they never seemed to know what was going on in their company. I heard of Checkered Flag Asphalt from another satisfied customer. I called them and the owner, Don, actually answered the phone. The next day he showed up, looked over the work, and scheduled it for the next week. That booking had to be rescheduled because of rain, but on the second scheduled date Don and his crew showed up. They finished the work quickly and professionally, and their work looks great. I would have no hesitation using them again, or recommending them to anyone."

"Rob was prompt, accomplished everything in the time periods he set forth, brought in a crew to get the actual blacktopping done. Answered all my questions and explained what needed to be done and why. Personable, friendly. <br /> A friend who had used him in the past recommended him and we're glad we listened to our friend's recommendation. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Longview, WA

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
