"We had a Ryan Home built about 3 years ago, and throughout the house carpeting was getting significant ripples from being improperly installed. Ryan refused to remedy the situation since they only warranty for 1 year. CSR Carpet Service quoted the project for what we felt was a very fair price given the size of the job. I had to reschedule twice after throwing my back out and being unable to clear out rooms of misc stuff on floors until I was feeling better. The owner was very flexible and understanding. Workers put all large pieces of furniture on plastic furniture movers so we did not have to completely empty each room. Everything was put back in its place before they left. Extra tack strips were put down on one side of each room to help hold tension on the newly power stretched carpets. Everything was neatly trimmed of excess after stretching and rooms vacuumed of any mess. I will be calling them back to do the finished basement when we are ready to fully use that space as well. They were very professional and careful with our furniture and belongings. Highly Recommended. <br />"

"Great experience. I like the fact that their pricing is all inclusive and not a "do you want fries with that" mentality. They came out, measured and quoted price which included moving all the furniture, tear up and removal of old pad and carpet and the new installation. Paul and Sean, the installers, were prompt, courteous and cleaned as they went. Extremely happy and will definitely use them again. <br />"

"After the remnants of Hurricane Sandy hit Cleveland, our finished basement was flooded. I looked at Home Depot, and some of the big name carpet places, but before I pulled the trigger on any of that I got a recommendation from my brother-in-law to check this place out. It is in midtown Cleveland, and it feels a bit more like a warehouse than a showroom, but there is a good reason for that. They don't spend a lot of money on advertising, a fancy showroom, or other frivolities, and you reap the benefits of that. The prices are terrific and the service is unbeatable. Josh Cohen worked with us, and he is the kind of guy you wish you could work with on every project. He was extremely helpful and gave honest answers, but never pressured us on anything we didn't want. After we went to the showroom and picked out the carpet, Josh came out to our house the next day and measured precisely. I believe we went in on a Friday, and it was installed by the next Wednesday, which was awesome. If I had bought at Home Depot I would have been waiting nearly a month. The guys who installed it were great; they have been one of Carpet Capitol's crews for something like 30 years they said. I have nothing but good things to say about the whole experience. What a great price for a whole basement of wall-to-wall carpeting. <br /> As a side note, Josh is a pretty talented artist. Not only does he run the main carpet business, he also creates rug art. A unique and extremely neat skill, he can create nearly anything you have in mind. I particularly enjoyed the Star Wars rug you see on his website, but that's just me. <br />"

"After shopping at a different location for carpet we went into Quality Carpet. We learned more about carpet than we did at the previous location. Sales person was very helpful in finding carpet in our price point and in the materials that would work best for the room we were carpeting. Installation people we on time and very nice. Got the pad and carpet installed within 2 hours. This included moving 2 couches and a treadmill. <br />"

"It went extremely well. I found out that even remnants of "Life-Guard" carpeting would be too large -- and therefore also too expensive -- for just the corner my husband & I needed to protect. And Max at Frederick's explained that he could not cut a remnant in half. Instead, he offered me two samples of Shaw Life-Guard carpeting, which together do a fair job of covering the corner we needed. He warned me that the colors wouldn't match, and they don't, but they'll protect my freshly-cleaned carpet--which is what I most wanted. In short, Max listened to my unique needs (itself a plus) and found a way to meet them. For free! He did not charge us for the samples. When we can manage it, we'll be replacing our existing carpet of course. I asked Max for his recommendation for a house with two dogs--the Shaw carpet, hard-wood, or laminate? He suggested instead vinyl faux-wood planking, and the brochure he gave us looks very attractive. When we can manage the replacement, we'll be calling Frederick's!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Lorain, OH

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
