"Matt is an artist as well as being an outstanding tradesman. He turned my rather mundane vision into a real bit of "decor", even my wife was impressed and she's hard to please. Matt and his assistant Manny were professional, polite, courteous and hard working. They turned a drab 3/4 bath into a real eye pleaser. Matt and Manny functioned as a well oiled machine, they were polite, courteous and above all professional. Matt kept us informed as to the progress of the work and regularly went that extra mile to ensure the excellent quality of their work. To the question of that shower door, a "DreamLine Essence Semi-Frameless Sliding Shower Door" a really beautiful bit of work and a total pain. The instructions provided didn't match the parts provided. It was a real pain to contact the manufacturers "Help Line" and finally I was able to dig through the manufacturers web-site and come up with the updated installation instructions. After that Matt and Manny were able to confidently dig into and complete the install. We will be asking them back to do several projects that we have in our planned remodeling of our home."

FINISHING TOUCH

"We asked Finishing Touch, Los Alamos, NM to provide carpet and installation services to replace our ~25 year old carpet in 6 rooms - almost our complete home. Estimates were given in timely fashion for a large selection of types. We selected one, then requested deferred installation until 6mos later to allow open windows in warmer weather to air out possible allergens. A manufacturer's sale occurred during this time and FT gave us the new, sale price. A few days prior to scheduled installation, an unexpected visit from our son made the scheduled time inconvenient for us, and FT was able to delay the installation to a more convenient time. Robert and Richard, the installation crew, were highly professional as well as very helpful and friendly. We are delighted with their work, which is much more finished that the earlier installer. Finishing Touch is a local Los Alamos business, and since we like to shop locally with reliable businesses, we did not check competitive prices."

"They were awesome! Fast, efficient and completed the work perfectly! We couldn't be happier with the fabulous results! Not only does our carpet look fantastic but all the odors left behind from purchasing a bank owned property are gone! We've also used EMF for bathroom remodel...they transformed an old tired tub/shower into a beautiful walk in shower! The tile work is second to none! We'll use their service when ever we can!"

"Overall, the experience went very well. There was one communication issue; because they were installing tile in a bathroom, the toilet fixture needed to be removed. I didn't understand that I was supposed to have the toilet removed and re-installed by a plumber, but when I told them this, they sent someone out to re-install it for me."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Los Alamos, NM

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
