"Aaron's Custom Carpentry was great to work with! We love our new stair railing. Part of the railing and spindles were replaced. He worked to solve a problem that we didn't think could be resolved. Would highly recommend! Great attention to detail and communication was excellent."

"We have loved working with Yusvel Garcia for our two custom carpentry projects. We looked at several different bids and quotes before going with Yusvel and our so happy with our choice and that we found him on home advisor. Extremely satisfied with the quality built cabinets, stair trim and railings. Yusvel takes his time to make sure clients get exactly what they are envisioning in the finished product. Professional attitude, friendly, experienced and very helpful when discussing projects and scheduling. Very detailed and meticulous while managing to get the job done in a quick efficient manner. No cutting corners or sloppy work here. He is willing to stop and explain things and quick to answer emails or texts. I would recommend Yusvel/ YGM carpentey to everyone I know, who are in the market for custom cabinets and trim work."

"B&W Complete Home Services (Ben and Ian) were on time, professional, knowledgeable, and fair. They are two personable, jolly, and good-natured men. I was actually so floored by how good of a job they did for such a great price that I gave them a tip. Ben and Ian diagnosed the problem (a broken seal and rusted pipe) and were able to replace these parts within two hours. While they were here, they even unclogged a slow-moving sink for me! Ben and Ian are two honest, talented, experienced contractors and I will be using B&W Complete Home Services for all of my home-repair needs in Kansas City for as long as I live here. I do not have a photo but will supply one later!"

"Jacob did great work. Far more than just hanging drywall but the dropdown menu won't let me add additional services. He was able to match up trim and custom router the edge to fit the original!!! Great work."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Louisburg, KS

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
