"Palmetto Ceramic Coatings painted their exterior of our home, including our deck and porch. They did an amazing job, and I have received numerous complements on the house. I would hire them again, and I recommend them for anyone looking for similar work."

"Dan did an excellent job cleaning and preparing our two story cedar siding house and garage for an oil-based stain. The house was way overdue for a paint job so there was a lot of peeling paint and splitting wood that needed to be addressed first. Dan took the time to properly scrape and sand the wood and caulk as necessary prior to staining. Both the house and garage look great. Dan works alone. Dan is a great painter and a really nice trustworthy and reliable painter. He is meticulous, neat, courteous and loves dogs. You won't regret hiring Dan."

"Columbia Electric referred Finishing Touch to me. The electrician accidentally slipped on a joist in the attic and put his knee through the ceiling on a Monday. It was not until the following Wednesday Finishing Touch was able to get a gentleman out to make the repair. Once I was on the schedule, he was right on time (both times). Although he patched it, he did not patch it far enough and a hairline crack still runs in the ceiling (see picture). I also had to request he mud over the whole patch as it left a dip when a straight edge was placed next to it. The one gentleman said that you usually have dips in patches. Frankly, you don't when you know what you are doing. While he was here I arranged with the owner, Russ, to do some sanding and mudding on the walls, which I had already begun (I wanted to save myself some time on the bathroom renovation). I had to request his return because he failed to sand some areas and never mudded others that he had sanded. He did not dispose of the waste from the patch repair, but laid the broken pieces of drywall on the carpeted floor at the top of the steps in a pile (about a buckets worth). Granted, there were some unused parts of drywall sheets, but I found this unprofessional. He used a drop cloth, but after sanding he also failed to vacuum/sweep the dust from sanding and left it for me to clean. Overall, I feel I was an inconvenience for Finishing Touch and they were forced into this job due to their relationship with my electrician, and the effort to get me out of the way greatly impacted the quality of their work. In fact, the second time they were here I was not aware they had left (I was on the back porch). I heard their vehicles start and they were gone."

"Todd fit me in within 2 weeks of my request, and arrived as promised.  I ran errands while Todd and his helper got to prepping.  I was gone a couple of hours and they had already patched all the holes, repaired the ceiling, and had the 2nd coat started.  I was amazed at how fast they worked and how the mess was contained to the area they worked in; no dust throughout the house.  They were able to complete the job in that same day.  On completion, Todd pointed out areas of the drywall that he was dissatisfied with. Since he was unable to do the exterior power wash due to the unending rain, he made plans to set up a time to address the drywall again and power wash after Christmas.
Todd painted and tore down wallpaper at my son's 1960s house before he moved in April 2015.  He did a wonderful job!  I recommend Todd to anyone looking for a painter.

"Brian said that all of the problem areas would disappear once it dried.  Not only did they not go away as he suggested they would, but I now see additional areas that have paint raised on the surface.     My initial meeting with Brian was disconcerting.  He quoted $650 to paint one room.  This included smoothing and painting a ceiling that I had already scraped.  This $650 did not include painting the molding or the doors. Later, as if it was generous of him, he conceded to do the baseboard.  Though hearing the amount of the quote shocked me, I agreed to it because he justified it with declarations of his uncompromising level of work. In fact, the reason he said he would not do the window sills is that it would take too much time to get them to the level of his satisfaction, again, referencing his uncompromising quality of work and having no intention of damaging his integrity as a professional.  According to him, if I want it done "right" this is how much it will cost.    Plans were made for him to come the next day to do the ceiling and the day after to paint the walls.  Before he arrived the first day he asked if I would mind him doing the work all in one day.  I was surprised that all of that work could be done in one day but he is the expert, as established above, and if he says he can do it then it must be possible.     Brian does a lot of talking.  I listened politely as he explained multiple times why poor results were fixed to the best of his ability.  The first issue was that I had already purchased Behr paint and he preferred Sherwin Williams.  I would have been happy to have purchased the Sherwin Williams had I not already purchased the Behr.  He went ahead with the Behr.  I overheard him tell his assistant that he was surprised how well it covered. With breaks for breakfast and lunch he sanded the ceiling and walls and gave two coats of paint to both. Why, as a professional, would he come out to complain to me about how hard it is to sand and prep?  Am I not paying a lot of money for him to do what he is telling me he is the best at? This was more than a little annoying as I was at my own work on the computer needing quiet.     It began to rain early morning and continued with heavy rain all day.  Naturally, the paint will take longer to dry.  This is a major cause of the problem I am about to explain.  He called me into the room to show me that, after two coats, the paint is still separating and not completely covering.  He blamed the quality of the Behr paint.  It is now 1:30pm.  It was devastating to me that we would have to get Sherwin Williams paint to redo it and I would have to pay him another $100!  In the back of my mind I am also thinking, "Two coats of paint within an hour on a heavy, wet day?"  Nevertheless, I went to Home Depot and battled with the manager to give me my money back for the faulty paint.  In fact, they did use the wrong base to mix the green color so there was this legit problem.  Not so for the gray.  The humidity on this heavy rainy day was still an issue.   At the end of the day, after much complaining about how hard it was, we inspected it together and agreed that it was at best "good" not "great" and certainly not "perfect."  He did not "skim" the edge of the ceiling because he said they started but they would have had to continue around the entire ceiling.  This IS what I am paying for.  I did not argue with him about this.  I paid his $650 (minus 10% coupon from Angie's List) plus the additional $100.  Feeling like I would give him a bad review, which I reassured him that I wouldn't, he offered to make the job right by offering to power wash my house for $100.  Power washing was the last thing on my list of financial needs of my house.  He then offered to paint a small room in another area for $100. Of course this would not include the ceiling, molding or doors.  No, thank you.   The final job was obviously not the quality work that he strutted the day he came to bid on the job.  Had he kept the plan to break the job up into two days, he would have had more time to do it right.  His justification for this decision was to get my job behind him so that he could tend to a job of a very picky client and needed to give that his full attention.  The walls aside, the ceiling is no where near acceptable for the amount of money that was paid out.  As for the walls, there are still areas of separation even after the application of the Sherwin Williams $80 a can Paint.  There are rough spots as well.  Overall, it is a poor job especially for such a revered painter.  My husband is beside himself and insists, along with me, that he return to fix this.  We will have to make arrangements for him to come when my husband is home.      I stopped him when he began to explain what he would need to do in order to fix it, that I would need to buy more paint, and that he would need to be paid more.  I told him that I didn't need to know how and I would not give another penny.  Just fix it.  He did      come back and fix it at no additional cost to me.   Here's some free advise.  Do not give a wall two coats of paint within hours of each other when rain is pouring down and give yourself ample time to do a job right. I may be the exception because you have a high rating on Angie's List, but I think that a cumulation of the above issues, circumstances and bad decisions made the job he did for me not have the same results that he usually produce. It is a good thing for me that he is a man of integrity.      Overall, I think that Brian is a skilled painter when he takes his time and does the job right.  I would not, however, call him again."

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in Lugoff, SC

Painting vinyl siding is a budget-friendly way to revive curb appeal without paying for new panels. As long as the boards aren’t warped, cracked, or leaking, a coat of high-quality acrylic paint can buy you another five to 10 years before replacement.

Stick to lighter shades so the siding doesn’t soak up excess heat, and prep the surface well for the paint to bond. If you’re seeing rot or moisture damage, skip the paint and plan for new siding instead.

High-quality acrylic paint is recommended for vinyl siding. Acrylic paint adheres firmly to vinyl surfaces and resists peeling and fading, providing a sleek and long-lasting finish. Ensure the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for optimal results. Your exterior painting pro has the expertise to properly prepare your siding’s surface to ensure proper adhesion.

Priming is not required if the vinyl siding remains in good condition and is properly cleaned. However, if the original color is severely faded or the panels have become porous, priming becomes essential. Priming provides a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and enhances durability, ensuring the acrylic finish adheres properly and lasts longer.

A paint sprayer is the quickest, most consistent way to coat vinyl siding. The fine mist reaches grooves a roller can miss and lays down an even layer in a fraction of the time. You’ll still need a brush for tight corners, but a sprayer slashes labor hours and reduces lap marks.

If you’re renting equipment, ask the supplier for a tip size made for exterior acrylics so the paint atomizes correctly and sticks to the siding.

Painted vinyl siding lasts between five and 10 years. The durability depends on the quality of the surface preparation and the local climate conditions. When the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepped, and high-quality acrylic paint is used, the finish endures longer. In hotter regions, the lifespan may be closer to five years, while cooler climates help extend it.
