"I can highly recommend J Plus Construction after the excellent work they did in transforming my wildly overgrown grass into a beautifully trimmed lawn surrounding my house. Two men worked tirelessly for approximately two hours and did everything I needed to be done with care and attention to my requests. I highly recommend this company."

"After purchasing an Angie's List Deal, I received the measuring kit in the mail promptly. The template and instructions provided to draw my split table top and each of the leaves were easy to use and understand. I mailed the completed materials and received the table pads very quickly. The table splits in the middle to allow insertion of up to 3 additional leaves. The table also has 2 drop leaves. That's 7 pads. All fit perfectly. I have used them on the table for family parties (not every day) and they're durable and built to last. I keep them in the box they arrived in to protect them when not in use. These are a worthwhile investment."

"Ivan is committed to working with wood. He knows different kinds of wood and appreciates their unique qualities. He relates to the homeowner in a very engaging, warm and helpful way. He was able to look at a piece we had in one bathroom and replicate it in our new bathroom. He responded to our request for help quickly, which we really appreciated."

"Manny and his team were competent, conscientious, and at all times professional and friendly. We described the shower transformation we wanted, the floor tile pattern, and the backsplash change, and they delivered precisely what we asked for. For a relatively small up-charge they even hung the custom shower doors we purchased, which saved us considerable money. I can easily recommend NW Highland."

"I scheduled the work for early November thinking the job was a three day affair.  We did not have another bathroom so I needed it done as efficiently as possible, we have 900 sq feet so everything was in disorder.  The contractor rescheduled with me, the day before he was supposed to come for the following week. When he did come, he met me at the hardware store to help me choose items, and to get supplies.  He was on time and communicative, and helped me understand the remodel process.    After working to take out the tub, he did not return for the week, did not call or answer my calls or texts, then finally he called, returning on the weekend.
I felt as if he did good work and did not cut corners and had some integrity about his workmanship. So he went ahead with the second part of the remodel: putting in some new drywall and the ceiling fan and heater.  However, things started to disintegrate, he never came when he said or was late and did not always call. He always had a seemingly legitimate excuse. But in the end a 6-7 maybe 8 day job took over a month!  I ended up finishing the job myself:  painting and putting up new towel racks.
Its a shame, I thought his workmanship good but can't ask him back for the third part of the remodel. It's almost Christmas and I'm painting the bathroom!

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Lynden, WA

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
