"Everything went SUPER SMOOTH from start to finish! Becki arrived and quickly worked up an estimate to remove nasty carpet and replace it with hardwood flooring. She was able to closely match the DIY price on the materials (enough so that it was worth the headache savings to have her order and deal with the flooring people). The crew arrived ON TIME and were respectful of my existing flooring. There was an unforeseen issue when the carpet came up and the subfloor had to be replaced, too. They made NO effort to price-gouge us on that addition. Steve and his installation crew even worked really hard to get rid of a squeak in the hardwood flooring in the hallway adjacent to the room actuallly being done by KDS. Absolutely recommend this company! I will be hiring them again for future flooring needs. (We still have 3 bedrooms with nasty carpeting to go away and Godawful tile in the basement to go away). You will not regret hiring them!"

"The job was done very professionally, with excellent results. The worker was quite friendly and professional and explained everything quite nicely.  He included the hall leading to one of the rooms as part of the package, which I thought was nice of him.  All in all, I was quite pleased with the results."

"I had a contractor that I hired to come fix some drywall in my bedroom and the job was not fixed correctly. I reached out to Power Restoration, they showed up within an hour, they were also very respectful, and did great work. If needed in the future I will not hesitate to call power restoration. This company has the perfect combination of professionalism, expertise, efficiency and time management. They made my drywall nightmare go away."

"I own a mid-century modern house built in 1960. I purchased the house from the estate of the original owner. The lady who originally owned the house had Alzheimer?s and lived in the house with a care giver in for 10 years prior to passing; her husband had passed on 5 years prior. There had been very little maintenance done in the house for many years and was 95% original. I hired Integrity Renovation & Electric to remodel 2 bath rooms and paint the master bed room. I made it very clear that I expected the same high level of quality that the house was originally build to. There work was as good as the original builders. I am very happy with the finished job.
They were very accommodating; because of my work I am only in the house on weekends. We made arrangements to meet at the house on a Saturday and they had a quote for me to sign a week later. As the work progressed previously unknown problems were found both structural and pluming. I was keep well informed of the additional expenses which were very reasonable.
I wanted the new tile work to compliment the original house décor, lowered ceilings over the showers and tubs with the tile turned 90 deg. on these surfaces. Accent mosaic tile strip on the walls, mosaic tile floor in the shower and 12? tiles on both bathroom floors. Recessed lighting was added in the showers and above the sinks. New contemporary plumbing fixtures were installed. The finished job looks very good.
During the renovation the job boss was in the house 90% of the time and there was always someone working in the house. During the final days of the renovation there were as many as 5 workers in the house putting the final touch on their work and preparing the house for my inspection. I am pleased with the quality of work and would hire them again.

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Machesney Park, IL

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
