"Marvin and his team are wonderful to work with! The team was so friendly and hard-working, but most importantly, they were precise, careful, and knowledgeable. They took the extra time to ensure everything they did would create a beautiful and long-lasting result. And they completed the entire patio in one day! We are so happy we chose Marvin and his team for this project."

"We had Matt come out and give us an estimate in March and he informed us that he was booking for the end of July; he even suggested a few competitors if we wanted our patio in earlier. We decided to go with The Concrete Company, despite the wait, and we can say: the wait was totally worth it. Our patio is beautiful and his team was just the best - my toddler and her friend were fascinated by the work being done and the workers talked to them, explained what they were doing, and even sang songs with them (!). The process was completely seamless and I appreciated that, when a slight issue popped up (a basement window we didn't even realize was there!), Matt came up with a simple solution that didn't involve any added expense. Can't say enough good things about this company."

"They were on time, responsive to our needs and questions, finished on time, offered recommendations, allowed us to purchase the equipment to fix the problem (decreasing our expense), cleaned up when done, friendly and were just all around excellent.  <br />"

"Excellent! They worked with our schedule; let us know if they were behind; all the work was done professionally; the results looked fantastic and they helped us put a little decorative stamp into the concrete. The helped us with putting in a nice curve too. It rained right after the job was done and they made sure to cover everything with plastic so the concrete would not be damaged while it was curing. It was a big messy job but they cleaned everything up and left our yard as neat as possible. Very nice folks, friendly and easy to work with. We are calling them again for more work later."

"When I bought my house, it was obvious that there was some settling occurring under the concrete driveway slabs immediately adjacent to the garage.  The settling caused the slabs to crack and break basically disallowing any mud jacking measures to be employed.  I called numerous contracts in March to come out and quote me the price and discuss the specifics like concrete depth and materials used with Cliff being one of said contractors. <br /> Cliff's quote came in the lowest, and while that was nice, it was not the deciding factor in my decision.  Rather, during our discussion, he described the process and materials he'd be using to perform the work, which is more than I can say occurred with the other contractors.  The downside of going with Cliff was that he was pretty booked (which I've found to be the case with many concrete contractors), so my job wasn't scheduled until 3 months out.  I wasn't in a time crunch, so this wasn't a concern for me, but if this is something that is important for you, just take note to plan ahead properly. <br /> When Cliff and crew came to remove and subsequently replace the concrete, it was all done as he described.  Everyone was very helpful in answering all of my questions and the new concrete looks great.  From my estimates the concrete ranged in thickness from 4.5 - 6 inches in depth, which was within the specs provided.  At this stage, everything is cured and looks great. <br /> Overall I was very happy with the services rendered.  As I said Cliff seemed to be the most knowledgeable of the work being done (probably because he was also involved with most of the work itself), and he also came in the cheapest.  If I have any future concrete work to perform, I will definitely be giving Cliff a call. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Madison, WI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
