"We had our radon unit installed this week and Josh did an amazing job. He was very friendly, efficient and explained all our options. We would definitely recommend him and your company. Less than 24 hours after being installed our radon levels are now in a safe level!"

"I had PureTech install a radon gas abatement system which lowered my levels from the high teens all the way down below 2 on average. Zach, the technician, was super helpful and great to work with. They even leave this really nice package behind. Results speak for themselves. I recommend PureTech."

"We need a quick turnaround after our house tested high for radon during a home inspection. The owner Don was super responsive with the initial quote and was right on top of every from start to finish. Got our installation scheduled right away and blew away the tight timeline we were facing with closing approaching. I hope I only need one remediation system in my lifetime but if I ever had to use his services again, this would be the first spot I would call."

"Tom and Josh arrived on the day and time promised. They were both very polite, professional and worked extremely well together. They explained exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it! They installed the radon Mitigation system and went above and beyond expectations. They cleaned up after themselves. After the job was complete, it looks like it has always been here. What more can you ask? I will definitely recommend DC Mitigation for anyone who needs this service!"

"Jon was awesome and went above and beyond to make sure he saw as much as possible with the home we wanted to buy. He was honest and unbiased, not telling us one way or another to purchase. He called the homeowner to set up the radon test at her convenience. He took care of everything and was able to schedule the inspection at a good day and time for us. He was extremely informative and took time to answer all our questions about what he saw. His report was excellent, easy to read with lots of pictures. He also gave us a book of homeowner checklists and how to care for a home. We did not end up buying the house because it had too many issues the homeowner was unwilling to fix, glad we had the inspection!"

"Pat was awesome!  He took me through the entire home and property.  He pointed out several things to me about the home - including maintenance issues, previous problems, things that were more of an FYI than an immediate fix...he was very patient and took his time.  He gave me an honest assessment of the home, noted his concerns, and answered all of my questions.  Overall, the inspection process was great and helped me with decisions on how to move forward with the home. <br /> Additionally, I mistakenly did not order a radon test when setting up the inspection appointment, and had to do so a few days before the inspection date.  There was a mix up at the company, and the radon test was never delivered.  Pat had one on hand and the matter was resolved.  I was phoned by AmeriSpec with an apology about the mix up and a credit for that portion of the inspection. <br /> I had a great experience with AmeriSpec and Pat provided a great service.  I definitely recommend giving them a call! <br />"

"I received 3 bids and selected John based on his having the lowest estimate and the highest Angieslist reviews. John is based in Janesville, WI, so scheduling him to install in my Madison, WI home was a bit tricky. He came to my home for an on-site inspection/bid, and we had to wait 3 weeks to get him to install. <br /> In terms of quality, John went above and beyond in his attention to detail. I appreciate that he installed using larger 4" PVC pipes (the other contractors said they would do 3" so less airflow), and he told me he was using a more expensive (albeit more power consuming) Radonaway RP265 fan from Home Depot. The fan has very good reviews. John caulked all of the hairline cracks in the basement floor, sealed the sump pump crock, and caulked the entire perimeter of the basement subslate/wall so that even trace amounts of radon wouldn't seep through. <br /> John was very considerate of my preference of keeping straight lines and minimal bends in the PVC pipe to ensure maximum airflow. The basement to garage to attic space above garage ended up being a very clean solution that is not obtrusive. I liked that John went above and beyond in listening to my needs and addressing a solution that fit both form and function. <br /> I did my research prior to his installation and John confirmed that he installed a condensate bypass kit to prolong the lifespan of the fan, and he also adhered to my request to have a wire guard and cap installed at the exhaust pipe just to prevent birds or other critters from falling in or "dropping their stuff" down the exhaust. I had no concerns of John's installation quality or detail. <br /> Where John could have improved was in his post-install follow-up. John normally offers a one-time post install radon reading (he says he uses the consumer-based Safety Siren Pro radon meter that you can buy from Amazon.com) but it ended up being rescheduled, then canceled, and enough time passed by that it never happened. I did request John still follow-up on it, but he must have lost track because I didn't hear back for months. I ended up purchasing my own Corentium radon meter. <br /> In the end, the results are what matters. From my home inspection radon readings, I was averaging 11.1 pCi/l with a peak of 22.3 pCi/l. After A.T. Pro Mitigation's install, I was averaging 0.9 pCi/l with a peak of 2.3 (7-day reading). I am very pleased with the end result. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Madison, WI

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
