"We worked with Shawn at Carpet Carousel to replace all the carpeting on our second floor. We told Shawn that, with young kids, we needed a very durable carpet that also looked nice. He showed us a few options and explained the pros/cons of each without trying to upsell us or give us something we didn't need. Once we decided to purchase and scheduled installation, the team of installers were fabulous. Not only did they have to work around other contractors (we were at the end of ice dam repairs), but they were clean and courteous as well. The finished carpets look awesome and we couldn't be happier. They even left us several large remnants so that we can have them cut/bound into area rugs or bathmats if desired. Overall, we couldn't be happier with Carpet Carousel and will definitely go back for additional rug and carpet needs <br />"

"Melrose Oriental Rug did a fantastic job cleaning, and they were transparent and reasonable with the price and process. They did especially impressive work with a beautiful carpet from the 1930s that mice had decided to make a home in. You'd never know they were there. Since we were new to carpet ownership, they were very kind about advising us in terms of care and binding up some loose edging and fringe. Will definitely go back to them when it's time to clean again, or if we buy a new one."

"I left a message, and Mike Tran quickly called me back.  His workload was about 1 week out, which worked for me.  He came over the next day to review the interior and provide a quote.  He emailed me the quote which ended up matching up to the final invoice.  The work took about a week, and the result was great.  The floor installation was tightly done, and the white oak used looks beautiful.  The refinishing and the installation left no dust.  I'm very happy, and would recommend using Universal Hardwood. <br />"

"The sales experience was very good--they were informed and suggested options that were suitable for my needs. The reason I did not give them an "A" was that the quality of the installation was not as good as I expected. The installer (I believe) is an independent contractor. He did a good job of explaining the options for how the carpet could be installed, but he was sloppy on fitting the carpet to the lower steps which are slightly curved. I pointed this out and asked him to improve the fit, which he did--sort of--but now that corner of the installation has come loose and I will have to staple or tack it into place myself. My advice--check the installation very carefully."

"I needed new carpet for a house I'd just bought. I had visited several highly rated carpet shops and the Rug Merchant was by far the best. The team at Rug Merchant spent a great deal of time with me helping me to understand what type of carpet would be best for the spaces. They helped me choose carpet colors/patterns that work together and with my paint. They were also very helpful in identifying lower cost options for my basement. I found it very challenging to get this kind of advice and service from other stores. In addition, the Rug Merchant's prices were very competitive. <br /> The installation team was fantastic too. It was a pleasure to have these guys in my house and they were absolute perfectionists, despite the fact that my house is really challenging (concrete floors, curved walls, etc). <br /> I would highly recommend the Rug Merchant! <br />"

"Fantastic. I have a 2 year old and 4 year old. AJ Hubbard and Sons is very family friendly. They were great with the kids in the showroom (my kids loved their childrens play area) and great with them when they came to install answering the 4 year olds questions with a smile. They made every aspect from picking the carpet, getting the quote and installing easy. They completely understood my carpet needs (low to no vocs) as my kids play on this carpet and even aired it out before install. I had looked a two other places first, one didn't know what a voc was and the other was rude tried to nickel and dime everything and said 15 foot wide carpet doesn't exist. Then I found AJ Hubbard a true gem and they know their stuff. I love my new 15 foot wide low voc carpet and my kids do as well. Everyone at AJ Hubbard is polite, respectful, professional and knows the products. If there happens to be a question about a product they don't know they immediately call and get you the answer. If you are looking for new flooring this is the place to go to."

"Less than ideal. The end product looks cheap. The carpet, itself, which was the most expensive option offered, is cheap looking. It was hard to tell in a small swatch, but we are not happy when we see it laid out. The pad is thin (despite asking for the thickest one available). The salesman was very nice and professional but the installation did not go well. There were mistakes that we needed to have fixed by the original crew and then a later crew, and it still doesn't look right. It already has stains that won't come out despite having "stain guard" (only a few weeks after installation). I will likely let the kids tear this carpet up for a year or two and then replace it with a different company."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Marblehead, MA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
