"We were impressed with Northland Fence from start to finish. We were planning to hire another leading company in the Twin Cities because they had done a good job installing a wooden fence at our previous home. We signed up for a free estimate from Northland because we were doing our due diligence in getting multiple quotes. We had a relatively big job, which required removal of a rotting wooden fence and three gates and replacing it with approximately 300 feet of vinyl fencing. The other company required us to hire a landscaper to build a retaining wall, and they planned to dig up all the old posts and cement and dispose of them. The cost was so high we thought the project would be a non starter. Then we had our consult with a representative from Northland who took time to walk me through the job so patiently. I had lots of questions after my consult with the other company. I left the meeting feeling relieved but also anxious about the price. When I got the estimate, it was exactly what we had budgeted for the project! Northland has a really slick system where they cut the old posts to the ground and work around them. They drive steel posts many feet deeper than other companies. Our three children were in awe watching the workers on the day of installation. Once we signed the contract, Northland said they were about a month out. However, the scheduling person moved us to an earlier date since we have a pool. She wanted to make sure our backyard was secure, which was above and beyond. On the tear down date (a Friday), two crews worked swiftly and hauled away the old fence. Then they drove the new posts into the ground. We were told to expect another crew to come within 2-3 weeks to finish the job. You can imagine my surprise when the crew showed up first thing Monday morning to assemble the fence. They worked all day and didn't quite finish, so they came out the next available day (when it wasn't raining) and completed the work. We had a slight issue with a fence post obstructing a window and some old posts sticking out of the ground. I emailed Northland, and an installer came out the next morning to fix it. We had one more small request, so the installer returned the following morning to take care of it. If I could give Northland a grade beyond an A for responsiveness, I most certainly would. We are so happy with our new white vinyl fence. Since we live in a development where houses were constructed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, many fences in the neighborhood are showing their age. We have had several neighbors inquire about the fence project because they are considering replacing wood with vinyl. I have enthusiastically recommended Northland to each one. They are a fantastic company!"

"Overall the service provided was good. The fence looks great and it took just a few days to complete. Workers were considerate and polite. They provided extra touches to give the fence a better look. A few boards warped after starting to dry. The company replaced the boards, and left a few extra boards in case needed. Great fence, very good installation and good customer service."

"As many of you know--finding a reputable home improvement company can be quite a challenge. We had some major projects to do in our yard and initially reached out to multiple companies requesting bids on building a 40 x 10 foot pergola, repairing a cedar fence and staining another major structure in our yard. Our experience in contacting home improvement companies was so disappointing. Inaccurate bids, no shows, and people showing up that presented themselves as home improvement companies but didn’t know what the heck they were doing. The only company that took the time to provide frequent consultation, accurate estimates, multiple visits to our property and consistent follow-up was Twin City Handyman! "The saleperson met with us quickly after we asked for an estimate.  She provided a couple of different options as well as pictures of the different fencing.  She was able to provide on the spot pricing.  The pricing was pretty consistent with the others we had quoted and we chose artistic fence because their nicer option was 300 cheaper than the competition.  After scheduling out 3 weeks we were able to make a couple of changes to our original estimate.  The gentlemen that worked on the fence worked diligently and professionally.  It was completed in 3 days.  The only constructive comment I will make is they don't tell you that the dirt accumulated from digging the post holes is your responsibility.  We didn't ask in the first place, but it would have been nice to know that we had some work ahead of us that isn't included in the job.  The gentleman was very good about asking where to put the dirt/clay until I could get to it.  Overall, price was good, fence looks great, and no issues.

"Very happy with owner, salesman, and work crew. They rescued me after another contractor started the fence, then walked off the job. They put up most of the fence in the winter, put up temporary fence in the spots that could not be done due to the season, then returned in the spring to finish. They were very considerate of my indecisiveness by making suggestions that would fit my needs. They were very tolerant of, and pleasant to, my two obnoxious dogs. Since the fence has been in place, three different people have stopped to ask me who did the fence, because it looks so nice from the street."

"Some of the positives: 
Prices seemed reasonable (I grew up in a family business that does construction so I was somewhat knowledgeable in this).  
Randy Schenk was our project manager and was always great to answer phone calls and get issues resolved quickly.  
Some of the negatives:  
1.  The time between accepting their bid, and the time it took to get started was over a month!  Not necessary.  We almost dropped them at that point.
2.  We had some gutter problems (leaking onto our front porch) we noticed shortly after they were installed.  The subs HW hired came to inspect and didn't even get out of the car or ring our doorbell.  HW later told us they "didn't see anything wrong".  Obviously.  It would be hard to see the gutters from the road!  HW says they will fix our gutters as soon as the weather warms up.  We hope this is true!
3.  Three months after construction was finished on our home I received a lien notice in the mail from a sub-contractor they hired to do our siding.  It appears they were not paying their sub-contractors on time.  Even though we had paid them in full, the law holds home owners responsible for unpaid work, even if it is the general contractor who is negligent.    Luckily, I had saved all the closing documents from HW and they had included a lien release that meant we could not have any liens placed on labor or parts used in the work done on our home.  I'm not sure how this would work for homeowners paying through loans or with insurance.  These documents quickly released us from any legal or financial obligations, but I would warn others that Hoffman Weber has financial issues that have not been cleared up with their sub-contractors.  Not a good sign.
